Default Preserving "new old Heiser?

Mates, I just acquired an H H Heiser basket weave buscadero belt and holster. I was surprised when it arrived to find that it is near-as-dammit brand new. Only a couple of minor creases in the belt--could be from storage; no cartridge dents on the cartridge loop area; and the only skid marks on the holster are from me trying a couple of revolvers for fit.
It appears somewhat dry, but still supple. Only evidence of prior handling is a few vestiges of a yellowish / tan substance in the bottoms of some of the recesses in the basket weave--as though a prior owner had waxed it and not completely buffed it out

I am inclined to saddle-soap it using a soft toothbrush on the recesses, let it dry for a couple of days, then hit it with a good leather preservative, buff it with a soft shoe brush, and let it be.

** I'd appreciate any warnings re the brushing in cleaning, or an suggestions for a better process. Photos when I find the camera and cable...
This is the third time in the past year I've bought holster / belt combos sight unseen. Priors include an Alfonso Pineda N frame holster on a 38/357 belt; then an S D Myres floral-carved Border patrol on a floral belt, which also turned out to be for a 6" N frame. No N-frames in the safe. Natch, I then just had to buy a 38/44 HD because I had the holsters. Heaven only knows what I'll have to buy to fill this Heiser. [LATER Edit: the loops on the Heiser are 38/357 and, while not perfect, the 5" 38/4 fits decently. I see dim pictures of future 27s or 28s...]
Apologies for any remaining typos; just had eye surgery and still can't see for love or money.

I'd worry about the use of saddle soap. Consider using Black Rock instead. If you think you've got some crud from a prior cleaning, I'd try just using a toothbrush to see if it comes off. The Black Rock will make it look nearly new again.

I swore I'd never buy another holster/belt blindly. So far, so good. There was one at the gun show last month that was a real beauty, but I had no idea what it was designed for. The owner wanted $750 and my belly isn't big enough yet to fill it out. I walked away, regretting it still.
