I have decided to start carrying my Model 66 snubby. I am going back to my roots. Anybody got any good ideas about what holster to carry the thing? I want a high ride leather. I may try a Alien since I get free trade in's, but feel like the OWB is the BEST way to go. I used to have a Galco that worked pretty good, but like to have a few suggestions from you all??????Thanks.

You might take a look at Lobo Gunleather. I have a pancake for my Model 19 with 2.5 inch barrel and like it. Mine was built under the original owner but I have had holsters made by the new owner and the quality remains.

Also might check R. Grizzle leather. I have a Georgia Snap for a Glock and I am leaning toward him building my next revolver holster.

I carry mine IWB in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II.

For OWB I second the suggestion to contact Lobo Gunleathers. The Milt Sparks PMK is also a very comfortable holster if you don't mind sacrificing a bit of concealability compared to a pancake design.

I looked into Lobo. I bid on a cheap OWB until I can get a better one. Lost it. Oh well.

IMO, you can't go wrong with a Galco Combat Master. Mine keeps my 66 snubby high and tight to the body. You should be able to find one online pretty easily.

I carry my M19 snub in a retired South Carolina DOC leather pancake holster with a thumb snap. Its a Don Hume and my favorite holster. I find the K Frame snubs to be very easy to carry OWB strong side. I'm not a big guy, (5'8" 185 lbs) but it just molds itself to my shape. I can pull a Tshirt over it, and it disappears.

Leather Pancake.

There are subtle differences in rake and height. But they are much more critical for concealing a 4in revolver or full size semi under a shirt tail, than fo for a.2-2.5in. Frankly it's hard to mess up the basic design badly enough to be unsuitable for a snub.

But for the obligatory name check, Roy Baker, El Paso Sadle, DeSantis, Bianchi, for most frequent personal use with snub revolver.

The old Bianchi 5B would be a good choice.
Rudy at Black Hills makes some great high rides.
TJ's gator is another good high ride

I have a 5B for 2in K frame. 5B are nice holster in general, but Pancakes carry much tighter to body.

All depends on your requirements and parameters. For concealment under winter coats, baggy "Photojournalist" vests, or non-concealment field and range use, pick whichever you like. To conceal under a shirt tail, a good Pancake is much better choice.

I'm in agreement that if you're going to conceal, and prefer an IWB holster, a pancake design is a better choice, particularly with a comparatively heavy snub nose like a 2.5" K frame Model 66.

My preference however is to use a well designed IWB holster and a suitably stiff two thickness stitched leather carry belt. It has a much lower profile, is much more secure when running, etc. and in general is more comfortable.

Below is a Wild Bill's Concealment Covert Carry. It uses an offset clip that keeps the profile thin, which avoids the major problem of a thick profile with IWB carry with a K-frame. The offset clip also helps keep the butt tucked in tight to your body.

The design is also tuckable, allowing your shirt to be tucked between clip and holster if you don't have the option of a cover garment.

They are undyed, natural leather which eliminates any color transfer to your clothing, and the need for any waxing by the user, but over time they take on a darker tan color:



WBC also sells a slip over speed loader carrier that lets you carry it with 2 or 3 rounds inside your belt for a slimmer profile. It works very well carried just in front of the holster.

I've used one for Model 60s and another for my Model 13, Model 66, and 686+.

I have been carrying my Model 13, 3 inch in a DeSantis Speed Scabbard for about seven months. Because of the manner in which the holster distributes the weight of the revolver, I have found it very comfortable. It pulls the weapon into your waist and conceals well beneath a suit, jacket, sweater, loose top, etc. I believe in Murphy's Law and so prefer a thumb-snap for security.

No to preach, but if you are going to carry a revolver, or for that matter a semi-automatic pistol, give thought to carriage of extra ammunition in the form of a speed-loader, speed strip, or pouch. This subject is good for another thread.

There are many good holsters out there as evidenced by some of the replies you have received so far. In the end though, you will have to define your mission and the purchase the best holster and ancillary items that you can.

Absolutely Just Plain. I used to carry a Smith 44 Special. Had a good Galco with strap. I will probably put this to rest as winter is almost at an end. I am a little curious about the IWB Wild Bill. Interesting, I always assumed the gun is a little too wide for comfortable IWB carry...

I've known guys who carried N frames IWB. A K Frame is nothing, get a good belt, holster and one size larger pants, you won't even notice it.

With a moderate barrel length, OWB has a number of advantages. I believe that you have been given some good examples. Another excellent one is O'Rourke, available at Index O'Rourke Leather .

I have several holsters or my 19 & 66 snubs, that said, my EDC holster is a Lobo Enhanced Pancake. It works for me. I am sure there are others out there that will do the job as well as this one, but, I have learned to stop when I find the right equipment... for me. I have a box of different ones and have just sold off a lot of them, but, this one will not be posted to sell.
