Default My Reyes Rehab

I was surfing on the bay and came across this little Mexican
carved Reyes. (Seller called it Reves. They did make a funny
looking Y.)

Maker mark says HECHO EN MEXICO, which I have been told
means Made in Mexico. It is also marked S-W and 2. I took
that to mean 2" Smith & Wesson, so I stuck my model 10 with
2" barrel in it.

It looked kinda sad and abused. I felt sorry for it, so I bid on
it, and got it for a song. ($16 shipped)

Cleaned it up with Dawn and distilled water, rubbed in a dab
of Blackrock Leather 'N' Rich, and brushed a shine onto it.
(I noticed the stitching needs a little repair.)

Before the rehab is on the left. After on the right.

Thanks Jimmy. I enjoy finding the old orphans and giving

Very nice. "Hecho en Mexico" is translated made in Mexico, so yours is stamped "in made Mexico".

Bay surfing in Boise? How are the waves? . Enjoy!

You are correct Murphy. Mine is stamped HECHO EN MEXICO.
My mistake. Surfing is cool.

Looks like a most excellent little holster. And now, thanks to you, it has a second chance at a useful life. Good job.

I have always said that Blackrock Leather N Rich was a special product. It brings life back to old leather very well! The holster looks very nice.

I have never compared it to any of the other brands.
No need to. It does the job. I learned about it on this
forum, and glad I did.

It's on the back of every Safariland and most Bianchi holsters, but in English :-). Country of origin is required for imports into USA. Here's another for you: Reyes means 'kings' en Espanol. Say, I have a saved link somewhere that indicates Galco's in Mexico, too.

Thanks for that Red. I wonder if the proposed import taxes
will bring some of our makers back from Mexico.
I looked at my Bianchi 5BN, that I've had for several years,
and it is marked Made in Mexico. I looked at a Galco Combat
Master I just bought within the last year or so, and it is not
so marked.

Nice holster. I saw it as well and, as you did, believed it for a 2" barrel... of which I do not have one. I have also bought Mex made carved holsters and rehabbed them from Ebay and they came out really well.

I also bought an old S&W holster that looked really rough for 20 bucks. It turned out good as well.

Default well...

stamped "MEXCIO" on the back. Still have to fix the stiches on the large on. Both are smooth leather lined.

I have salvaged 5 or 6 holsters on Ebay and all have turned out pretty well. The most expensive on has cost me $40.00 for a 1911 Commander. The others have been around $20.00 or so.

Mmm, well this is where I first ran across the Galco reference:

When did Galco cross the border? | The High Road

I have no dog in that particular fight, Mexico makes a many great products in my personal experience with making products in maquiladoras there.

When did Galco cross the border - from the High Road is an enlightening
thread. Thank you Red. The Galco brochure, the last entry in the thread,
says "All Galco products are made with pride in Phoenix, Arizona".
The copyright date is 2013-2017.

As I mentioned previously, my Combat Master is not marked.
I also have a Galco NSA IWB that is marked Phoenix, Arizona.

I also mentioned that my Bianchi 5BN is marked made in Mexico,
but I also have a Cyclone that is not so marked, and I don't think
it is any older than the 5BN. Maybe some were/are still made in
the USA?
