Question Question & request

I have a question and request about the 1895 Hardin shoulder holster that is made by El Paso Saddlery.

How do you put it on?

Now for my request if anyone has any pictures or knows where I can find pictures of the holster being worn please let me know.

Well buddy, no one else has chimed in so I guess you're stuck with me.

I would say you'd stick your left arm through the hole (for a righty) and run that other strap around the back of your neck and down the front of your right side, attaching it to the belt between the buckle and your right side front pants pocket.

Looks awkward to me as the grip is tilted wrong. Shouldn't the holster be almost vertical under the arm pit or even a little farther towards the wearer's back to tilt the grip downward for easier drawing?

Yes it would sure be an awkward draw and re-holster the way it is
shown. As you said muzzle should be straight down vertical or even
angled back a bit. Maybe he pulled it way up like that to be sure it
got in the picture?

That was the only picture I could find of someone actually wearing one. I think crazyphil is right, and the guy just shoved it forward for the picture. Normally it would hang straight up and down.

Concur. If you notice his posture, he is slightly turned towards his right, and the holster is pushed forward so you can see the bullet loops on the holster harness. I think the holster was originally designed and built back in the late 1890s for SA revolvers, and to me, it appears that it would be a lot heavier and bulkier than a modern day shoulder holster for a modern day revolver. Heck, with modern day materials, you could get away with the holster itself made of leather while the harness made largely be made of nylon webbing straps that would be much lighter, slimmer, and offer a better draw stroke (pull through the spring clip vs. up through the top). Probably more cost effective than the El Paso rig as well, though that company does make a fine product.

Regards,

Dave

Yes the long strap looks to have a belt loop and I would guess the other strings hanging off the bottom of the holster are somehow used to secure it on the strong side... Looks cumbersome at best..I would opt for the 007 model for sure for sure......

sig220.45: It is an excellent picture thank you for finding it for me.

And i agree with many of you the rig looks comfortable to wear and it would definitely do a good job of carrying and concealing the gun.

But no matter the position of the holster itself the drawing and re-holstering the gun looks akward and and difficult
