Recommend some holsters
Looking for a belt holster for the 28/44 conversion snub I've posted in the '61-'80 subform. It's a 2 7/8" barrel. I definitely want leather, perhaps even period appropriate but I'm flexible on that. I do prefer open tops over thumb snaps.
Thanks for your ideas.

My suggestion would be to call or email Ken Null. He is among
the best custom makers and does not take forever like many of
them do.
His RSS (Revolver Super Speed) being a Seventrees design,
borrowed from Chick Gaylord, would be period correct.
My RSS is shown here with S&W model 10 with 2" barrel.
I ordered it by email and it was in my mail box in less than
2 weeks.
PS The hammer protector is an add-on to his standard RSS
to keep the hammer spur from chewing up my jacket lining.

I met up with my friend I got the gun from today. He gave me a bunch of ammo (mostly Hornady Critical Defense) and an older holster. It's marked "Longhorn" on the bottom of the back, thumb snap. I found a holster company with that name in Massachusetts that opened in 1965 and is still in business. This is definitely a period style piece as the gun is from 1978.
I think I'll be shopping for an open top pancake style in the very near future.

I really like the holster... just me thinking, scrub good with saddle soap, wipe it down, let it dry then buff it with a shoe brush. Depending on the out come maybe rub it down with warm mink oil let it sink in a bit and then rub it down with an old cotton cloth.
On second thought...after reading other threads about holster leather care maybe my use of saddle soap might not be a good idea. Sorry.

I really like my Kramer Belt Scabbard for my 28-2 in horsehide. You might take a look for yourself.

S&W FAN:
I've got the same holster for a 4" K. I too love nostalgia but after using Kramer Horsehide Leather custom Holsters for a dozen or so years each time I strap on a traditional vintage holster I SEE how inferior they really are to modern day designs and materials.
The old style holsters were more of a simple "pouch" than a boned leather holster designed to retain the weapon without the use of straps, snaps, velcro, tension screws, springs, etc. I can't tell you how many times (in the old days that is) a snap or strap had come un-done and the only thing that was holding in the gun was gravity & luck. While I will on rare occasion get nostalgic and use a vintage holster, I am very cognizant of the retention devises coming un-done. The next day I will go back to a modern holster and realize how much better they really are. STILL - I understand your nostalgic aura as I share that as well.
