Default Private Purchase S&W model 1917 revolver holster

Another one of the 4 holsters I bought last week. This one was sold by Abercrombie & Fitch and was probably made by Heiser. It has an interior plug in the bottom and a grommeted weep hole on the back as well as a leg tie down sewn slot. M 1916 wire pistol belt hanger, swivel, full flap and finial complete the holster. My 1917 fits perfectly.
Regards,
turnerriver

That is a cool holster. I have definitely never seen anything like that. Like the weep hole.

Wouldn't that be a 1912 wire holster attachment? The 1912 preceded the Model 1916 holster.

Gorgeous holster, John. So, where's the leg strap?

The double hook device is actually known as the Model of 1910. The first holster adopted by the US military to carry the Colt Model of 1911 pistol was, indeed, the Model of 1912 swivel holster as made by the Rock Island Arsenal, but the double hook was the Model of 1910. As pointed out above the Model of 1912 holster was problematic and was quickly replaced in service by the Model of 1916 holster.

Thumbs up

That's way nicer than any of my WW I era holsters. The owner must have been a desk solder.

nice find!
