Question Sherpa/fleece safe for storage?

Is a Sherpa-lined gun rug safe for storing a gun as far as moisture goes? I believe it's made of polyester.

No. Do not store a gun in a case.

Guess I'll do this. Borestore inside of a gun rug.

Now the question is, do I still need silica gel?

A lot depends on your location. Warren is in Minnesota,I'm in SC. I've stored guns for DECADES in holsters,fleece-lined gun rugs, leather rugs and various other items. NEVER had a problem with rust. I must say that I have ONE gun,a nickel 586,that gets "cloudy",but a simple wipe-down with CLP quickly solves the problem,at least for a while. YMMV.

I do live in Florida just a few miles from the beach so t is pretty humid over here.

I'm thinking of storing it in a Borestore in a gun rug in my bag. Now I understand a borestore is breathable but a gunrug might not be. Do I still need a silica gel packet in there or should the borestore and a couple packets inside the bag be enough?

Side note: I'm being kind of anal because I plan to preserve this firearm as well as I can and eventually hand down

A Bore Store, Sack-Up or similar product will work without any extra gun rugs or layers. A nice coat of wax (I use Renaissance brand, but Johnson's Paste reportedly works just as well) is an extra layer of protection.

Having experienced a few nice, dry Florida summers (), climate control or an airtight safe with dehumidification is an excellent idea on top of all the above.

My ccollection is still pretty small, too small to warrant a whole safe (one day!).

My question is will the gun rug prevent it from breathing and maybe cause some rust EVEN THOUGH it's in a borestore in a gunrug? Reason why I want to keep it in a gun rug too is to be able to quickly identify the firearms within my bag without having to look at a tag.

I have had good luck putting a properly oiled gun in a Zip Lock storage bag with the air squeezed out and then in a gun rug or case. Never had a rust or corrosion issue with this method.
