I figured this is related. Sheath keeps heavily corroding the brass bolsters on 2 of my knives. Different sheaths.

Chrome tanned maybe? Acidic?

Any ideas? Both are custom knives/sheaths.

Store your knives out of the sheathsone my Buck lbs I litely oil the brass bolsters.

I typically set the leather sheaths aside in favor of something in kydex. Not sure if that's your style or not but I bet your corrosion issue would disappear.

If you're getting verdigris formation, you can take it off quickly with isopropyl alcohol.

I have wrapped folding knives in wax paper before storing them in their leather pouch. So far that's worked. A simple plastic sandwich bag also works. In addition to protecting the knife they help keep the knife's protective oil from discoloring the leather.

Work knives on my belt were always handled too often for for the brass to do anything worse than darken.

Try Ballistol. It helps to stop the chemical reaction and is safe if you want to cut your sammich in half.

I have several knives with brass bolsters some with leather sheaths, some with nylon sheaths. Sheath material seems to make no difference -- the brass tarnishes over time and if not oiled occasionally the verdigris sets in. It's pretty much the nature of brass.

I use Renaissance Wax on all my knives. Might help, couldn't hurt.
