I hope Red sees that unknown maker. It looks like one of those
Brill look alikes those guys down in Texas were making.
Thanks for the program above. I like to know who made them.

PS If some of you guys have enough, I would like to know
where you find all these gorgeous specimens. What are your
secrets?

Phil, for me it's been largely about focus. I collect guns although I have most of what I want, at least until I see something I didn't know I wanted. Holsters are a different story-I'm always actively seeking examples and information. I routinely check online auctions and prowl gun shows. I haven't been to the Tulsa gun show in several years but when I did attend I'd find more gun leather there than I would in all the other shows over the rest of the year. I'm known as a holster collector so I've been offered collections and inventories over the years, people offer me items because they know I'll buy and will pay retail or at least reasonable prices. A former SWCA member called me recently, I had sold him holsters over the years. He sent me 30+ holsters and I bought them all, most to sell and a few to keep. I used to advertise " I buy holsters " in the Gun List and in Shotgun News. I'm not looking for a particular holster to fit a certain gun-I'm looking for any holster.
I joined eBay in 1998 and my collection grew rapidly. The Internet has been the source for much of my collection.
I'm gratified to see the interest in gun leather on this forum and in general in the collecting arena.

Heiser, ordered without a safety strap, for an old model Woodsman Match Target.

Texas or Mexican made.

S. D. Myres.

Dahlstrom Saddlery, the predecessor to Colorado Saddlery.

turnerriver

Thanks for all that John. You have certainly put in the time,
the effort, and the $, and it shows. You have a tremendous
collection plus a lot of knowledge that we all appreciate.
I like that fancy Myres Jordan Border Patrol. It was probably
made for some high-up in the BP, a Police Chief, or Sheriff.

How about carved or tooled and not laced? I know I'm showing off but I am crazy about carved holsters and it's all about sharing knowledge and collections isn't it? The top row are Myers,Heiser,Myers ,Heiser, Myers. The second row is Alamo , Myers, Heiser, Berns-Martin,and Heiser. The bottom row are all Myers.

I think you are right Phil! I have a question for John, with all the holsters you have, how do you keep them straight? In other words, if you are looking for a particular holster, how do you find it? I have a small collection and it is hard for me to find a particular holster at times!

My final humble contribution to this fascinating thread is a pair of Basket stamped holsters. The Mdl 19 is in a Don Hume and the 1911 is in an unmarked unit.

I have partial lists of several makers that I try to keep updated although currently I'm not able to find two holsters on the lists. I can remember what I have when prompted and I usually can recall details about a holster when I see it. I try to go through my inventory at least once a year to keep verdigris under control. Familiarity helps, I know what I have but don't always know where it is.

turnerriver

Gee wiz---I thought I had a holster problem until I started looking at this thread. I swear next time one shows up in the mailbox and my wife opens here mouth, I am going to show her this thread. Should shut her right up.

I have a big walk in closet with a lock on the door. One fairly
big wall covered with peg board. That's how I store my guns
and holsters, but still visible. Problem is the wall is covered
with holster and guns. Now what?

I have a fix! Take everything out of the room w/the walk in closet and cover all 4 walls with peg board! Voila, easy peasy.

The other 3 walls are covered with stuff too. Maybe I just
need a new house with a bigger closet, or a whole room.

Default Tooled holster

This was a Christmas present from my wife last year. It was made by the man that shoes our horses. The SAA is a Great Weastern.

Since we are posting some carved, but not laced, here are a few more of mine:

1. Colorado Saddlery Model 1932:

2. An El Paso Saddlery Holster

3. A Heiser Flap Holster Model 175:

4. A Heiser Spotted Holster Model 2710:

5. An uncatalogued Myres Jockstrap Holster (and one of my favorites):

Absolutely beautiful, Larry.... What else can I say...and you take excellent care of them!!! I remember when that O. Ball was up for bid, it didn't look anything like as nice as it does now!!

Best Regards, Les

Default Laced, and carved Holsters

All six of the laced Holsters that I have are by the George Lawrence Co. A couple are very plain, a couple are basket weave, and the two that are Carved have been rescued, for my use, the little black one from the throw away bin, in a gun store, and the large carved one had initials carved on a strap across the front of it, and that strap was replaced with a cartridge holding strap. thanks for sharing. This carved SAA holster is calfskin lined as well. There are no maker marks anywhere but my guess is it is of Mexican origin.

boykinip, it's interesting comparing your uncatalogued Myer's Texas Jockstrap holster with the one I own. The carving of the jockstrap is virtually the same, while the body of the holster is quite different owing to the deep recurve for the trigger on mine. Also the apron on mine is rather kidney shaped as compared the yours which is quite a bit straighter.

Bill, I like your holster a lot. You are right about the similarities and differences. I was very happy when I found mine. Before getting it, I researched a bunch online trying to find one like it. I never could. After I won it, I asked turnerriver about it. He gave the the information I now know.

Here's one that's about 15 years old from EPS, rawhide laced billets on the belt, laced edge on the holster and laced edges on the magazine pouch. I saw a magazine article that Brian Pearce had wrote and he had a belt like this and I liked it. I had ever intention of ordering different holsters with rawhide laced edges for different guns but when I received this one, I was told this was it, no more. So as of right now I guess I own the last one made with rawhide laced edges. I check back every couple of years to see if they offer this again, I am told no.

Another recent unknown maker find, I was pleased when it turned out this one fits a 4" S&W Military & Police model. Note the interesting lace work accounting for a full welt and open toe this holster has.

db,
That holster is really nice! The carving and lace work is fantastic! I just don't understand how someone could be that talented and not want to "sign" their work.

Looks like a K or maybe R followed by another letter or two?

Here are two that I posted on another thread, but they belong on
this one too. Neither has a name. Seller didn't know what guns
they were made for either. I thought, and hoped, one would fit
my 1911 and the other my 2" K-Frame. I was lucky. They both
fit. Shown on the left before rehab. On the right after a bath and
a Blackrock treatment.

That Eubanks was probably made by Royal himself sometime
between 1939 and 1949. Very nice specimen.

Don't have it in hand yet but I just recently snagged this little Idaho leather gem. Hopefully, it will fit a 2" M&P.

And then there is the Eubanks left handed Colt 1908 holster that I have no worldly use for, but it was just too dang cheap to pass up !
