At the annual SWCA symposium
I arrived yesterday morning and set up our display table and sales table. So far I've sold two holsters and bought two. There is a lot of gun leather for sale and some beautiful pieces on display as well.
Today Roy Jinks will speak on Smith and Wesson and WW I.
Looking forward to a great show and seeing some old friends and old guns.
Regards,
turnerriver

Wish I was there with you guys.
I have way too much leather already, but I would still buy more
Unfortunately Family issues have had me tied up in Central Florida for a few months.

Missing this year, too. New grandbaby takes priority, but already working on a display idea for Reno next year. Had a really great time last year.

turnerriver, while perhaps not many of us know your given name other than your "handle", AND, more especially your leather;
You likely have as many fans of your skills and collections as anyone there.

That's the only floral carved Chic Gaylord holster I've ever seen.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!!! Please for us unfortunate folks that can't be there! I would also like to see a picture of John's display.
BTW, is all this nice leather that is on display for sale?

The only complaint I have is this Hotel has too little Wi-Fi. There is a lot of great Leather, Guns, paper, great guys and gals but taking a lot of time to get on line is a bummer. I had to get up at three AM to check my e-mails.

I hope you will consider allowing John to photograph it for The Book. As he implied, that is a rare one, and so ideal for a holster history book :-)

Gorgeous, including the Hoyt crossdraw (brown) at top centre of your larger picture.
You have a very rare holster (which doesn't make it valuable) in the small, lower pic; I've been looking for one for 50 years. Can you pick which one it is? Like to have a big pic of it for The Book if you've a mind to do so :-).

Red, the brown Hoyt crossdraw is a very substantial and well made piece of leather; it's for a .38/44 6.5" gun.
As far as the "rare" holster, are you talking about the brown Bianchi 9R shoulder rig?
Also unusual is the B-M holster in the upper left of the table shot; it's a B-M/Evaluators collaboration built as a shoulder holster. Took a few of us some considerable time to figure out the strap orientation to make it work. Still unweidly.

For some reason my first look at your images gave me tiny pics, yet now I get bigger ones; so had a better look to confirm. Yes, that use of a Speed Holster as a Lightnin would have taken some thinking! I wouldn't trust a loaded, full-sized steel revolver in it, upside down. I'm also verifying a pair of Stagecoach 'break front' holsters at centre right.
Yes, that Bianchi 9R is rare, for a reason that's obvious to me but few others (not it also has Western 'block' letters in the stamp): it was the very, very first offer of the design and is minus the so-called 'tension screw' near the muzzle. It's not a tension screw; we had to add it to get back the function of the stitched-in welt inside the Berns-Martin original -- the little guns were falling out without it!! The spacer keeps the muzzle from rotating inside the holster, and preventing that keeps the trigger guard inside its retention pocket until the wearer forces the pistol out himself. You'll see the problem, now, in this original catalogue pic when it was introduced in 1973
14 9R are added a.jpg:
I hope you'll allow turnerriver to photograph it (I haven't asked him, but you're right there with him) because he is principal photographer for The Book :-).

Red, I updated the pics with bigger ones.
I've had that old Bianchi 9R since about 1970, as I recall--were they made that early? I've worn it so much over the years that the ledge inside which holds the cylinder in place has worn so much that the gun "slips" out a little.
The SWCA Symposium is over; I'm home and I hope turnerriver is, too.
I'd be happy to take some pics, just message or email me and let me know what you want. If my pics aren't up to snuff, I'll send the rig to turnerriver so he can do it to your satisfaction.
Meanwhile, here's another pic. Mostly gun, but you can see the marking on the 9R very well.
P.S. If I'd known it was "rare" I wouldn't have put it in the $25 box! Glad it didn't sell.

Its working title was 'baby 27' because it's a reduced Model 27 Break Front. Indeed we were developing it in Monrovia '70-'71 before the shift to Temecula circa 1972, introduction for the '73 catalogue. VERY few were sold in the form you have (no fulcrum screw).
If you got my original point, it 'slips out a little' because there is no fulcrum point -- leather spacer in the BM and post-n-screw-grommet in the Bianchi -- to keep the cylinder engaged inside the cylinder cutouts and the trigger guard engaged inside its pocket. That is, 'fixing' the problem is not changing the cutouts, it's adding back the fulcrum point. I know, not obvious; and yet BM certainly knew it was necessary.
The BM creates its version of the cylinder cutouts of the 9R with the wire-form spring that passes flat across frame at the recoil shield. The slits in the leather at that point are supposed to make this possible without wet moulding the leather itself.
I'll send a PM :-).
