I know this subject has been visited before, but to me it is
still just about as clear as mud. I'm referring here to the
3 digit style code. Not the code for the gun that fits the
holster.
Here's what I think I know:
The FIRST digit identifies the finish.
4 = smooth
5 = basket weave
7= carved floral
8 = rough side out (maybe)
9 = lighter weight leather
The SECOND digit identifies action type.
0, 3, 5, etc. odd numbers = revolvers
2, 4, 6, etc. even numbers = semi-automatics
The THIRD digit makes absolutely no sense to me at all.
I thought 3 might mean those with a skirt, but then found
some without.
I thought 9 might mean those with the hammer shield, but
then found some without.
I thought 8 might be inside the waistband, but the 718 is
obviously not for iwb.
I thought maybe 2 meant the holster was lined, but no.
Has anyone cracked the code? If so, please share what
you know.
