Vintage S&W IWB Leather Holster Model 62 Question

Can anyone tell me when the S&W IWB leather holster named the model 62 was first introduced. I know sometime in the 80's S&W stopped making leather holsters but this one is from possibly mid 70's. Just looking to know when they first came out. This holster has rough side out and smooth leather inside with 62 and the S&W logo stamped inside. Also looking to know possible value. Thanks

It sounds like you're describing a model 09 IWB holster with a metal clip with the size number 62 stamped on it- 2" J frame revolvers. I checked catalogs from 1969 into the 1980's & found no model 62 holster. The model 09 appeared in the earliest catalog I know of in 1969.
Value is another story, the S&W holsters don't usually bring much & the model 09 in the most popular size wouldn't attract much attention, in my opinion.

Thank you for the info. That is the model 09 I am talking about based on you description. Looking for a period correct IWB holster for my 1966 S&W Model 60. However wasn't sure if the $50 asking price was steep.

Clip-on holsters like this one used to sell for five bucks, new. That's because they're just two pieces of diecut leather with a clip inserted into one piece that is stitched to the other, then the seam stitched. No glue, no finishing, the least expensive leather the maker can get that's suited to the job.

In the case of an SW, I reckon you'd never get your money back, so it's not a good investment in that sense.

It's also not "period correct" :-). One could get the original, which was made by Wolfram for Colt in the '60s, or a Blazer which was Wolfram's own brand. Ideal, if your budget could stand it, would be a Gaylord or Seventrees, both being from the 60s. Otherwise IWB wasn't a big thing in those days as it is now.
