Default Vintage S&W Wolfram FBI 01-1034 Holster Questions

I just picked up the holster in the pictures below that was advertised by the seller as a S&W Wolfram FBI holster model 01-1034. I don't have it in hand yet but I picked it up based on this forum thread:
Couple of Smith holsters...need info

This holster bears the S&W logo and is also stamped with a 5. Based on the thread above the 5 appears to be Wally Wolfram's size numbering system but I am really looking to confirm what size S&W this will fit. Seller said a 4" barrel 686. However the 686 was not introduced in late 60's early 70's when I believe this holster was made. The thread above states possibly a 4" M&P revolver. Does anyone know anything more about this holster and what revolver it will fit? Thank you

5 is the Wolfram size code for a 4" Military & Police revolver and 34 is the Smith & Wesson holster size code for that revolver as well. The FBI model was only produced under the Smith & Wesson logo for a short time in 1969.

Great, thank you for confirming. So did the FBI use this holster designed by Wolfram. Also wondering based on scarcity, would it severly devalue it to holster a 4" Model 10 in it for light range work or should I keep as an unused collectible piece of S&W history?

Since I would be buying the S&W to fit the holster, would any other 4" S&Ws besides the Model 10 fit this holster? Thanks

It should fit any 4 inch K frame, probably not an L frame.

Both Wolfram and S&W used different size codes for target sighted revolvers, your holster was sized specifically for the M&P or model 10 revolver. Wolfram & S&W called this the FBI type holster, to my knowledge the FBI did not use this holster. Heiser introduced a holster in the late 1930's, the model 457 holster, that they stated was designed for the FBI. A version with the hammer protector, model 459, was introduced after the war.
I know that B. T. Crump had a contract in the 1950's to provide holsters for the FBI. A number of makers produced FBI type or style holsters.
Given the condition of your holster I would not use it if it were mine.
There are many similar holsters available in useable condition for reasonable prices. Just my opinion of course.

Thank you. I did buy it as a collectible rather than use but was inteigued by the model that it would fit. Any idea what it is worth unused with the wrinkled box?

In my "semi" professional opinion your holster was made to fit a 4"
(or 3.5") S&W K Frame. Either fixed or adjustable rear sight is supposed
to work. It should also work for Colt's Trooper, OP, Python, etc.
