Unmarked Myres deluxe K-22 holster
I just received this holster from a fellow forum member. It's an unmarked S.D. Myres model 545 holster made for a 6" K-22. No makers mark or logo but the model number 545 and K-22 6 is lightly etched or pencilled where it can't be seen. A masterpiece for a Masterpiece. I have another one that has the logo stamped on the back of the holster body, also where it can't be seen. Kansasgunner showed a couple of outstanding unmarked holsters recently, what unmarked holsters do you have ?
Regards,
turnerriver

It could be a Myres but I'd need more evidence to be convinced. Beautifully made regardless; and given that I have theorised that this model by Myres was always carved for the company by renowned leather engraver Baird (hence the incredible price for the time) the fact that the carving is not typical of Myres is not determinative (but begs the question).

Did a bit of research, not too different from what turnerriver would've done, and have to agree with him. For me, in addition to all the obvious similarities, the intertwined geometrics down the cuff (the third 'leg' of it near the muzzle) taken with the incredible quality of construction. My hesitation was only because every single image I have of what Myres called a Ranger holster has the Myres name stamped into the centre of the cuff unless, for example, someone's intials were stamped there instead.

We've discussed before that this holster was $25.00 when the holster next to it was $2.50; so, quite a premium priced item.
I have a theory that it is the work of F.O. Baird; and I have that theory because (a) he was the world-class 'leather engraver' of the time (b) he is known to have worked for/with Myres (c) given that Myres' Mexican carving is normally pretty ordinary and (d) this one is so expensive for the day; it's the only rationale I can come up with that they would've been associated.

Myres used the holster's image on his very first holster catalogue of 1931 and continued to use it on later catalogues (but not on all of them) until 1941.

Carved and laced. Just what I like. However, I have never cared much
for the "jock strap". Maybe because I wore too many when I was
younger. (not holsters)

John,
If the sellers pics had been anywhere near as good as your it never would have lasted for you to buy it; congrats on a fine score!

For me, it's breathtaking. Where do y'all find stuff like this? Is this the condition it was in when found? Any idea when it may have been made?
John, you must live right. Congratulations on another outstanding acquisition for your collection.

Although even Heiser called those 'money belts', the 'correct' name for them is 'scout belts'. I'll locate the history of them, that I found with the Brill's history. Yours is gorgeous.
An aside: that's also the very leather that Heiser and others used for their shoulder harnesses in that era until the 1960s. Chrome tannage, stands up to weather including water better than veg (such as sweat). It's what's hanging off the muzzle of Tom Threepersons' holster as a leg tie-down (believed to have been made 1916-1919).

Red, here's one I own that isn't stamped as they usually are. This one does have the El Paso, Tex. logo stamped on the rear of the holster body, I was hoping the K-22 holster had a concealed stamp as well. This one fits a 7 1/2" Colt SAA.
Regards,
turnerriver
