I recently picked up a Bucheimer Federal Man B230 holster for my mid 1960's Model 36. This one has the retention strap sewn to the front of the holster with a snap connection to the hip guard (assuming that is what the tall leather extension of the holster is supposed to be). Anyway that is all I know about this holster. Does anyone know the background? Was it desigened for Federal Law Enforcement and was it a popular holster for carrying the Chiefs Special in its time? Thank you

In my part of the world this model came in the 1962/1963 era.
It was consider to be a mite faster to draw from then the "Pull Over" safety strap. Old timers didn't care for it as it was a high ride holster.
I used one to carry a Model 10 4".

The "hip guard" or tall leather extension is actually the snap break. It is moved, or slapped, to the side, toward the body, which unsnaps the holster for drawing.

The "Federal Man" is very similar to the Tom Threepersons but with a thumb break safety strap. All around one of the best plain clothes holsters ever made, I wish it was still available!

Not very much. J.M. Bucheimer, and Bucheimer-Clark, still haven't reached collectible status and are quite 'common' as many, many of their products were produced. A possible exception might be their Hank Sloan, invented by an FBI agent and licensed to Bucheimer.
