JAY-PEE K4 Holster
I came across this holster a few days ago while looking for something else. I had forgotten I even had it, but I know I have owned it for many years.
The title says it all; JAY-PEE swivel holster, with K4 stamped on the back. I assume the "K4" means K frame S&W with a 4" barrel. I tried my Model 65; it goes in, but it is a very tight fit. If it had adjustable sights I don't think it would fit. On the other hand, my old Colt Police Positive Special just slides right in. I couldn't find much on the internet other than NYC police used them.
It seems well made of good quality heavy leather. The holster is in very good shape, other than a few minor scuffs here and there.
Does anyone know for sure what gun this holster is supposed to fit, how old it is, and what it might be worth?

The "K4" marking would almost certainly say it was for a 4" K frame, and most likely a tapered barreled M&P/Model 10. That was about the most popular service revolver in existence during the period when that holster was in use.
The non-tapered barrel of your M-65 may very well be the reason for the extra snug fit. For example, I've seen holsters made for older 4" N frames that were too tight for a Model 29 due to the 29 having a non tapered barrel.
Those generally don't seem to bring a lot of money. I see them on ebay, but don't even pay a lot of attention to prices as they really don't interest me....

That's a Holster that NYC Mounted Police , and NYC Highway patrol used. They were used up until the late 80's early 90's, then most officers went to the 9mm semi. NYPD just yanked all the revolvers just a short while ago, so it is possible there was a motorcycle cop or a horseman that was still using that holster till just recently. They weren't very tactical, but with the flap and the lanyard attached to the gun butt, you had a better chance of firearm retention while riding a horse or an iron horse.

I have an old Jay Pee holster that I received from a New York City Sheriff. Good quality off duty IWB CLip holster.
For some reason I associate Jay Pee gear with the Northeast.
