Default S&W Combat Masterpiece 4” #7 holster

Hello, folks. Can any of you holster gurus help me figure out what type of holster I have? It looks hand made with actual ink writing on it. Thanks for the time and effort on any info. [QUOT[/PHP]

My guess is that it was made by Alamo (in San Antonio of course).
Lining and stitching looks very much like Alamos that I have.

PS Maybe a real Guru will be along to give you more exact
information. I'm not a Guru, just a student.

Crazyphil is not only a guru,he's a published guru.
I think a number of Texas makers turned out holsters like yours with Alamo being the most frequently encountered.

I've got one that looks an awful lot like that that was made by Kirkpatrick.

Agree with all those posts -- that construction for the Threepersons style is exclusive to Texas and I almost want to call it Texican; that is, it seems to be an Hispanic construction and was never used by the majors of Texas such as Myres. Even today's El Paso Saddlery uses the 'inside out' lining method. I believe it is a contemporary notion, and I have long associated it with early Kirkpatricks.

As a thought, no brand marking could suggest that it was made 'to a price' for a retailer. 100 years ago this was not uncommon, because the retailer wasn't wanting to create more business for the maker, but for himself (hence the 'maker' wording in stamps of the era, accompanied by the postal address; name, city and state being all that was needed for company mail in that era).

Unmarked holsters v rarely have any value beyond their utility. Nineteenth century holsters can when their construction tells us its source.

Think of a maker's mark as being its "provenance" for quality of design and construction, and rarity or lack thereof.
