Chas Bluemel anyone?
Here's the only piece of Bluemel's gunleather I've been able to snag - so far, 'though I do have another nice piece of floral carved leather with his maker's mark on it. I'll try to post a shot or two of it later in this thread.
This one holds my ca. '57 Combat Masterpiece quite well.
Happy New Year!

Reference book Old Cowboy Saddles and Spurs say a little about Bluemel (spellchecker want's to make this 'bluebell'):
"Charlie Bluemel, El Paso TX 1920s-1950. His son Edd was still in business in the late 1970s. James C. Morris worked for them from 1967-72".
The entry on Morris is much longer. The relevant portion states:
"In 1965-66 he worked for S.D. Myers under Harlon Webb and Clyde Taylor"
Webb actually owned the Myres name for saddlery 1966 to '76 or so, whilst Myres' son Bill operated the holster side with Taylor as his shop manager. Both Harlon and Bill retired that latter year and sold up to Col. Spurrier, who owned it only a year, before it was sold to La Croix who then sold the name on to Duclos and the machinery and patterns to McNellis who started up today's El Paso Saddlery (it is not the original Company).
Realise that OCS&S book is actually covering saddle makers; these men's forays into holster making is incidental to their appearance in the book. So being listed there doesn't mean 'holster maker'.

Good Stuff Red. I had read brief bits and pieces about Bluemel, but there's not a ton of info on the web about him or his business.
An interesting aside is that I found that the name 'Bluemel' itself is not an obscure surname in the El Paso area. A while back, I encountered someone with the Bluemel surname in a photography group on facebook. I asked whether she was possibly related to the holster maker, but she said she had married into the family and wasn't sure if there was a connection or not. Maybe I'll try to re-connect with her and see if she found out anything.
Blue Bell? Hmmm.... That just happens to be the brand name of my favorite ice cream maker.

I have a couple, almost all of the Bluemel holsters I've seen over the years have been law enforcement types, especially Border Patrol or Jordan styles like Wheelgun's.
I actually had the larger holster on yesterday as we spend New Year's Day in the Big Cypress shooting.
Regards,
turnerriver
