Anyone else like LEWIS holsters?
Here's a couple of holsters from one of my favorite holster makers... LEWIS LEATHER of Los Angeles. Nothing really fancy or special but I do like the recess for the cylinder.
Old School Cool and gives you an old vintage "Dragnet" feeling...
"...just the facts, ma'am.."

What's not to like ? I'm not sure the middle holster is a Lewis but it's a good knock-off if it's not. The black holster is for a .9 m/m auto so it lacks the pouch. Good idea, Linda.

turnerriver

I don't wear cross draw often, but when I do I like this Lewis.
Friday and Malloy both liked Lewis.

I just gotta ask.
Is there any kind of holster you don't have...any respected/collectible brand you don't have at least one example of...no matter how esoteric it might be?

Remembrance from an LAPD LT
I recently exchanged email with retired LAPD Lt. Max Hurlbut - The Vagabond Policeman.
============
Hi, CRAIG,
Yes, Lewis Leather ("Lewis Holster & Leather Goods”) had a
small one-story building on the north side of Sunset Boulevard,
below Dodger Stadium and the Police Academy: 1321 West
Sunset Boulevard; phone: MAdison 4-2006. The front was a
small show-room and the rear was full of wheels and leather-
working machines. Always smelled of freshly tanned leather.
Lewis made belts, holsters, and could fabricate almost anything
you wanted. I had them make an ankle holster for working Vice
in 1965. They sold uniforms, motorcycle & patrol leather jackets
and boots, handcuffs, etc. I bought many little leather Field Note-
book covers over the years. They were in business when I retired
in 1985.
The holster you show—with the steel retaining spring— ... was extremely popular with LAPD.
If the Academy ever sold these, I never saw them in the “Revolver Club.” Lewis made them up on order.
Two men ran the shop: An older grey-haired white guy normally
in front and a Mexican fellow who did much of the leather work.
I regret not being able to recall their names. They always greeted
you like a long-lost brother. Personable and honest. If anything
broke or displeased you, they fixed it or returned your money.

The centre one is a Clark. E.E. Clark is the one who got the ball rolling on these spring holsters with his 1929 patent; and Ed, Lewis, and Dick Hoyt were all within walking distance of each other. Hoyt, as you know, was representing E.E. Clark's operation before he struck out on his own including his own patents.
The later Bucheimer-Clarks extended the spring right up to the recoil shield behind the cylinder. That was in Earl Clark's (the son) time, late 1950s after E.E. died in the 1940s. I would expect that the B-C versions would be the best.

My fingerprint instructor in the Academy wore a Bucheimer-Clark Sheriff's Model and it nestled a 2.5" Colt Python. 1970 was the year.

The Bucheimer Sheriff looks a lot like the Lewis.
Here it is on the left, and the Lewis on the right.

I was lucky enough to have purchased some years back a black Lewis holster for my 2nd series Colt DS, marked on the back LEWIS L.A.CAL. POLICE SPECIAL 38 2C. Still in excellent shape leather is supple with some patina from wear. I'v been looking for a matching plain clothes/off duty black Lewis 6 round 38 cartridge slide or a 6 round 38 cartridge pouch but so far nothing has shown up, eventually one will show up. Also have a few Bucheimer Clark Sheriff model holsters for my Chief Specials, very similar excellent quality/design as the Lewis holsters.

Apologies for being pedantic, Phil, I've only in the past year learnt this discipline: Bucheimer (J.M. Bucheimer) in MD and Bucheimer-Clark in CA, though related companies, are different brands and had a different product range. Bucheimer didn't make the Lewis style, whilst Bucheimer-Clark did. So I've had to learn to say Bucheimer for the original, old-line company; and Bucheimer-Clark for the newer (1959 or so) company to distinguish.
The two companies even folded at different times: B-C late 1970s, Bucheimer late '80s. B-C by the time of its demise was a Tandy Brands company, and Charles Tandy had just died. Earl Clark then went over to Safariland by 1980.
Here's how each addressed the crossdraw product offering, with the b-c at left and the bucheimer at right (also offered in the semi-shoulder version):

I am learning a lot. There was a time I only had one holster per hand gun......... they were just something to carry the gun in. Now I think I like the holsters more than the guns that go in them.

Me too! What were we thinking? Only one holster
per gun.

But think of how neglected that pistol must feel.

... and don't start.. I don't think O.Ball, Heiser..... or any of the others made holsters for such an ungainly fire arm. You cannot dress that thing up try as you may. If it makes you feel better that holster came all the way here from England for this Austrian pistol.

There are some good holsters made in England. Two of my favorites
are Price Western Leather (PWL) and Horseshoe Leather (Andy Aratoonian).
The PWL 320TS is shown on the left with my Colt's Agent.
The Aratoonian IWB is on the right with my Glock model 22.

Geez.... who’d a thunk...... I had several of these holsters many years ago. Inherited from my father-in-law and had a tan leather cross-draw in excellent condition for a 6” Colt with the cylinder cut out and it as beautiful...!
Don’t know where it went......I think that I still own a plain black drop box for the .38 special cartridges..... I want to weep when I think of those old holsters that I let slip away....

I know exactly the feeling. Back in the late 50s I had a little
Chic Gaylord speed scabbard. Didn't know then what I know
now, so it got away from me.
I have since got replicas from PWL, on the left.
A replica by Thad Rybka, 2nd from left.
And then finally, just within the past year, I got
lucky and got a real Chic Gaylord from our friend
and leader turnerriver. 3rd from left.

My sole Lewis looks just like the first photo and is marked " K 4 ". My Model 10 is markedly loose in it, but both my Model 15s, 4 inch and 2 inch are snug in it? Does the "K" stand for "K-38" as in adjustable sight target frame?
