Thumbs up Colorado Saddlery Restoration

Found this on the big auction site recently for $28 to my door and figured it's time for me to learn how to lace leather. As you can see, the original rawhide lace was dry-rotted and damaged, so paper thin I simply pulled it apart like a zipper to begin work, and the leather showed some kind of liquid staining and generally had seen better days. Cleaned up the leather and watched a few videos online, ordered some deerhide lace (I chose not to go with rawhide as it requires wetting, knowing how much it's going to shrink, splicing and all kinds of other expertise I don't have) and a lace needle and put it back together today.

Original condition:

Wow. I would never have seen that nice looking holster in the neglected leather scrap you started with. Nice, nice work.

I believe they were for rifle scopes. The CS is 14" and I have a Heiser that's 12":

Scopes tended to be longer back then compared to today.

I recall a recent post with a similar item and multiple guesses as to the intended use. Great fun. Good work.
