Just got this holster with a 64-3 DAO
This is the first one of this type that I have seen. It came with this 64-3 NY-1 3" RB. It looks like that it was made for the DAO's
Any thoughts from the members would be welcome.
Its a De Santis P3. Could this have been issued with these smiths to the NYPD?
Thank You

It just looks like a DeSantis Speed Scabbard with thumb break to me.
DeSantis has made a million of them probably. Here is one of mine without
the thumb break. Of course with the thumb break you couldn't call it a
speed scabbard. The generally accepted definition of speed scabbard is
open top or mouth.

I have a similar holster. It is made by Strong Leather. It is marked “4NYC” on the back. It is for a four inch K Frame revolver. It will not snap on a revolver with a normal hammer. I wish I could find someone to use it, as none of my service revolvers have bobbed hammers.

....and I wish it was for a J Frame. I could certainly use it.

Your right...but...this one will only work with a bobbed hammer. And it came with the NY-1.

I would guess that must have been on some kind of special order. We
don't see very many like it. DeSantis has done some special holsters,
and then when they get popular they make them available to the public.
I'm thinking of their HRT model that they made for the FBI's Hostage
Rescue Team. (photo below)

Desantis was one of the authorized holster makers for such guns. My guess is it is in fact the issued holster.

The only holster the NYPD issues (well, you do have to pay for it) is the duty holster. Off duty holsters could be anything you wanted, as long as they had a thumb break. All my off duty stuff was made by Cobra Gunskin. They were a popular choice since they were in every police equipment store on Long Island.
I saw a detective with a Blackhawk Serpa last time I was down there. Wonder if they relaxed the rule on thumb snap. For the record, I still prefer a thumb snap.
