624 6" crossdraw
Guys, looking for a range holster for my new to me 624 6". Thought a bianchi would be easy as I have one for my mod 57. Apparently the 111 only goes to 4" for n frames. Any suggestions other than high dollar custom jobs? I even looked at Longhorn Leather who made a really nice rig for my 1911, but they don't list double actions.

78bagger, I'd like a little more detail before I could actually reply. What, precisely, is a "range holster"? At all of the ranges I frequent, and it's quite a few, they don't permit drawing from the holster and shooting. I see you're in the more Wild West than I am so maybe it's different there. Even my outdoor ranges forbid drawing except and unless you are in a combat class. That's the only time I have ever drawn and fired a fighting handgun on a range, namely, in a combat or close quarters battle training class. Cowboy action shooting doesn't count.
Secondly, cross drawing a 6" barreled double action handgun would never be permitted, regardless, due to the possibility of sweeping anyone to your side.
So, details will help!

Dang boy! I figured a Texan would be in my boots. Out here I can use the city range or, if it's too crowded or out of hand, I can move a few hundred yards down the road and shoot in the open. Either way, I would never leave my firearm laying on a shooting bench or the tailgate. Thus, when I check or reset targets, I need a rig to carry my firearm. I could carry "Mexican" but a holster is more comfy for hiking.

Yoda, also I totally get your input. I belong to the Phoenix gun club and whipping out my long barrel would not fly. Down here south of the res, the city range has no range master and few rules. I use it mornings during the week when there's only us old guys there, otherwise I pick a spot in the desert. We do get some yahoos out here. Look at the overhead and check out the holes in the tin roof.

HAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get it! Now........
I had a brainstorm - I was wondering if I missed the point totally and you meant riding out on the "range", like on a horse! But I see that far off I was not!
At the various ranges that I shoot at only the outdoor ranges permit shooters to reset targets. All of them require guns on the table, actions open, slides locked, etc. All of them are supervised or they are not open for business. So leaving a firearm on a table is not only not a problem it is required. The indoor ranges use electric targets or pulleys - nobody goes down range.
The only official ranges (not counting friends' farms, etc.) I ever got to that were "unsupervised" were outside of Durango, CO and Fort Collins, CO, more or less. There we shot what we wanted and when we wanted but due to the lack of supervision we all carried guns that were not with us for pleasure. If you follow my drift and I bet that you do.
For that long barreled smoke wagon I think you need a chest holster, for the range and for woods walking. Check out the Kenai Chest Holster or similar products. The gun is suspended across your body, easy to draw, easy to re-holster.
Whether a long barreled hogleg is easy to do any of that with is debatable but if you're tall enough that would be the ticket.
El Paso Saddlery makes a great holster for cross draw when driving but I am unsure if it will work for such a long barrel. I have a 6" barreled 586 and I have never attempted to put it in a holster. So let us know what finally works for you!

Thanks fellas! I'll check out Lobo and El Paso. And Yoda, I'm picking up what you're laying down. When I have a long gun on the range, I always have a business piece on my hip.

Deja Vu! I understood exactly what you wanted.
When I lived in Pensacola, Florida I belonged to a range like this. A public road ran by the benches and I was warned to carry or take the gun with me when I changed targets.
When ever I bought a S&W or Colt I always purchased an appropriate holster for it. I was always big on Bianchi and many of the holsters I owned could be used with more then 1 gun.
Keep in mind your 624 is not a 6" but a 6.5". I used an X15 shoulder holster for mine and it also worked with a 6" 29 and 6" 28. Bianchi is no more I believe but as suggested try a chest holster. Good luck, and thanks for the memory.

Unless they stopped making them, Bianchi has a 6.5" N frame 111. I'm certain of it because I own one.

I'll have to watch at the gun shows. I went to the Safariland site and they only list the 111 up to 4". I'll give the chest rig some thought. Mucho gracias.

Superman hooked me up with a great used bianchi 111 Cyclone that, due to its age, will accommodate my 6.5" 624. Thanks Bob! Arrived in no times and the price was right

The Bianchi 111 Cyclone for 6 and 6-1/2" N-frames is available on Amazon for about $65.
