Default Model 39 holster recommendations

I recently had a 39 passed down to me through family and want to get a quality carry rig. It will be used for occasional carry both concealed and open. Ease of removal would be advantageous with this set up. I think I prefer the Sparks Axiom style snap on over the Allesi CQC-S style although I have not owned or used either. I imagine that the Axoim would be less likely to rotate away from the body on a less then perfect draw, and be generally more stable. A very minor point I'm sure. The CQC style is made by several quality leathersmiths, the Axiom style I have only seen by Sparks and TT leather. Neither Sparks or TT list their Axiom or axiom style for a 39 (no dash, steal frame, round triggerguard). I'm going to email and see if they can accommodate my needs.

My questions:

Are there other style easy on off holsters I should consider?

I have looked at Sparks, 5 Shot, Alessi, Lobo, Grizzel. Some others I should look at?

If you have a nice rig for a 39 (or similar) how do you like it, and let's see it!

Thanks

I believe that you can still get holsters for the Model 39. I believe that Milt Sparks can make both an OWB and IWB for the gun. According to the owner, Tony Kanaly, with whom I spoke to a few years ago, they can build some of the old style holsters on special order as they have the old molds and plans for the older styles... (I was inquiring about the old rigs that Mr. Sparks used to build like the Gold Medal belt/holster combo.

You would have to inquire at some of the other manufacturers of leather holsters still around or that have come into the business in the past years as the older holster makers have retired or passed away... Doc Barranti in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania may be able to build something to accommodate your needs.

Another way to get something for that 39 is in the used market. Safariland and Bianchi, Safety Speed, Smith and Wesson Leather (old Wally Wolfam Leather) are still available on the used market and are very good holsters and quite available at some competitive prices. And there are many others from closed holster makers still available.

The old Bianchi Pistol Pocket is a very, very good concealable holster and they were made for the 39/59 series and the later 3rd generation autos.

I hope that you are able to find something. The Model 39 is a fabulous autoloader!

When the Fedders family purchased Lobo Gun Leather one of the items transferred was a vintage Model 39-2. Probably one of my most frequently used pieces in the holster shop over the years. Although discontinued from production a quarter-century ago, there are still many thousands of those fine pistols in the hands of people who want to carry and use them. Unfortunately, many holster companies stop making holsters for popular pistols about as quickly as the next generation of pistols hits the market.

Suggest that you contact Mark at Lobo Gun Leather. You will find that nearly every design in the line-up can be made for your good old Model 39.
