MORE OF CRAZYPHIL'S EYE CANDY
I thought I would (shamelessly) show off some of my guns in
holsters with accessories.
I will add 5 a day until I run out or you stop looking.
Here's the first day's dose:
At left, Viking's 55M cross draw on a Big Texas Ranger Scout
belt, stag handle knife, Resistol hat, & S&W Model 29.
2nd from left, Berns-Martin, on Mexican Ranger belt, Puma Prince
knife, Stetson, and S&W Model 19.
3rd from left, TJ's chestnut gator on Culver gator belt, Air Force
souvenir cap, Marbles knife, and vintage Charter Undercover.
4th from left Brill holster on Thirty Dollar belt, Bear knife,
Stetson, and S&W Model 10.
5th from left (last but definately not least) Red Nichol's Brill-
Persons holster, Red's Ranger style belt, Camillus knife, NRA
instructor cap, and Colt's 1911 Gold Cup.

Dang it, you didn't say who made the stag-handled knife in the first photo. So, I have to ask. ??
BTW, you'll run out of holsters before I quit looking.

It's from Sharp's Cuttlery. Quite inexpensive, but it makes a good
photo model. I think the sheath cost more than the knife.

Nice holsters, all. I was like the kid!! I truthfully thought I was in the "for sale" section. I guess my old age is acting up again. If you decide to move those to that section, give us a heads up!

Does that make you a pigboy instead of a cowboy?
Or are you like Mr Munny in Unforgiven. He was a pig farmer.

crazyphil, I AM IN AWE OF YOUR COLLECTION, AND YOUR ORGANIZATIONAL, AND PHOTOGRAPHIC SKILLS.....
TO PUT TOGETHER, AND SHARE THIS EXHIBITION WITH US GUN PORN LOVERS, WAS NO SMALL FEAT, AND IS GREATLY APPRECIATED......
IN THE FINEST TRADITION OF "THAT LITTLE BAND FROM TEXAS", ZZ TOP, YOU CERTAINLY ARE A SHARP DRESSED MAN......
BTW---OUT OF CURIOSITY, I WENT BACK AND LOOKED. YOU'RE NOT A TEXAN. YOU ACTUALLY LIVE IN ELMER KEITH COUNTRY--ALTHOUGH I'M NOT SURE HOW FAR AWAY SALMON IS, FROM BOISIE. ELMER HAS BEEN MY HERO, SINCE HE FIRST BEGAN WRITING IN THE GUN RAGS. SOMETHING MUST HAVE RUBBED OFF ON YOU. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, YOU HAVE SOME GREAT STREET CREDS......

Phil,
Great work and collection. Do you have any examples of Tol Dawson's work and if you do, could you post images of them? Some of the older Texas Rangers that I used to hunt with in my younger days mentioned his name often. Thanks again for your efforts. Brian J.

I believe it was LBJ who said that the boys who work the ranch wear cowboy hats. The man that owns the ranch wears the Stetson Open Road.
Thanks for taking the time to share with us.
I will always notice nice boots, creased jeans, starched shirts, leather and steel. They are an investment that you make once in your life and then enjoy for years.
When I was coming up the rule of thumb my Daddy gave me was to never spend more than a day's wages for a hat and a week's wages for a pair of boots. Many a time I had to swallow hard for that pill to go down. Many a time I saw boots but kept on walking because of other obligations.
I passed that rule of thumb to my sons. I can't tell ya the pride I feel when I look down to see them wearing a $1,500 pair of boots. I'm probably wearing a pair of boots older than my son. Heeled and soled so many times I've lost count. My boys know and understand that feeling of pride in the rewards of a hard days work.
Feeling the way I do about the Stetson Open Road, you can imagine my excitement when I read about an estate sale up in Johnson City Texas. They had a list of Presidential memorabilia. Two Open Roads were listed. I did my homework and researched the hat size, dang it...He wore a 7 3/8....same as me.
That was the day that I tried to convince my wife that there was an exception to every rule. Oh yeah, I came home with a beautiful tan Open Road that was more than a little over budget.
Keep posting, great stuff.

Thanks for that Ingramite. I was in Houston many years ago
doing a seminar, and I told this story that they seemed to enjoy:
A fellow was talking with a Texas rancher who was, of course,
bragging about the size of his ranch.
The fellow asked, just how big is your ranch.
Texan says well son, I get up early in the morning, get in my car,
and start driving, and it takes all day to get clear across my ranch.
The fellow said, Oh I'm sorry. I had a car like that one time too.

I have heard about Tol, but never have seen any of his work,
so consequently, I don't have any.

Phil...our own Mike "Doc" Barranti makes a copy of one of Tol Dawson's holsters, and has it listed on his web site. He did research while visiting with Bart Skelton, who has a few Dawson holsters. Apparently Mike took photos and measurements, and has added at least one model to his line. Sheriff Jim Wilson has a story about the project on his web site. Nice looking leather.
Best Regards, Les

Phil,
Love the new pictures, especially Red's prototype Threeperson's holster and his Ranger belt. Those just ooze quality workmanship to me.
Speaking of Red, where has he been? Just noticed he has not been around for almost 2 weeks. I enjoy his knowledgeable posts. Hope everything is OK!
Larry

Red is well. Just taking a "time out". I too miss his posts. I've learned
so much from him. Hoping he doesn't stay away.

Thanks for your comments Joe. Salmon is a good days drive
from Boise. My brother in law lived there and we would go to
visit now and then. He knew Elmer, but I never had the pleasure
of meeting him. They had that nice museum in the Cabelas here
but closed it out for some reason.

Day 7's dose of eye candy. Seven days of posting makes one weak.
I need a break, and you all probably do too. Many more holster though,

32. Mexican (Reyes?) floral carved and laced holster, Haugen gunbelt,
Case knife, speed loader, ammo, S&W Model 10 with 2" barrel.
33. Oklahoma Leather "Slim Jim" holster, cartridge belt, wood grip Bowie,
(sheath by Phil), Stetson, Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk .44 Mag

O. Nezzie, CRKT knife, Pinkerton cap, Glock Model 22 .40 caliber.
35. Cavalry flap holster, belt with U.S. Buckle, Colt's 1860 Army replica.

comments.
