I'm thinking Henry Hotchkiss might have been a law enforcement officer, I can't find anything on Google. This holster is pretty well made and unusual. Cross draw ? Too complicated ? He was proud enough of it to ink his name and the year as well.

Nice holster. The design looks like a driver's holster.

Found two men named Henry H Hotchkiss in San Diego . One born in 1913 in Colorado and the other in 1902 in Connecticut . The 1902 Henry was listed in a 1930 Census as occupation retired . He has a WW1 Vet so probably disabled . I think he died in 1979. The other one I will look some more on . Neat holster , very different .

Added :The 1913 Henry was Henry Dewitt Hotchkiss but he died in 1954 so it would not be him .

Nice holster! While crossdraw is a strong possibility, it seems to me that that design would be at an advantage even strong-side, for a 6" revolver.

Wasn't there a shoulder holster, in the early '80s that used a system like that? Can't remember the company.

Pig Hunter....yes there was. DeSantis made a shoulder holster that hung verticle but when unsnapped the top part, which was tight around the cylinder, would pivot to a horizontal position. The weapon could be drawn from the holster at any angle after being unsnapped.

The example I have is well worn and is horse hide. It is made for a 6 inch barrel N frame. I don't tote my 629 around much but this rig worked out well when I was in Alaska a couple of years ago.

It looks very similar to the old Gaylord crossdraw designs.

In a book authored by Elmer Keith, probably the one titled with "Six guns," in a photograph Mr. Keith is wearing a Heiser holster of this type. And several years ago I had a DeSantis pivoting shoulder holster with a thumb break. DeSantis had this pattern available for several revolver frame sizes and barrel lengths. I do not know whether the DeSantis holster pattern was also available for semiautomatics.

FYI: I used this DeSantis very large, very long holster [patterm] for a 9.5-inch SRH 480 Ruger because I could draw this huge revolver from any position I was in, and I could wear it beneath my parka and still draw it conveniently. When I sold the revolver, this superior holster went with it.

What would be the purpose of the slot in each side of the holster itself,,hidden when in the secured position?

Thanks for posting the instructions Muzzleblast. I was having a hard time figuring out how that would be used crossdraw. The instructions showing the strong side draw method put it together for me. Necessity is the mother of invention. Very Clever.
