Default Thumb Snaps

Is there any way to squeeze with pliers, brad, indent, or otherwise tighten up thumb snaps on holsters that pop open a little too easily without replacing them?

Yes. I've carefully re-shaped the male side of the snap on a few. Sometimes hitting it with a dowel and hammer. Sometimes using plyers. It depends on how it is worn and which style. I've also replaced several. It's easy with the tools that come with the snaps. If you are lucky, you can keep the original top female snap and just replace the hidden bottom male side.

Absolutely not the way to do that. Instead focus on the socket which is the female half and readily replaceable if you get carried away.

Using common pliers of the sort with the concave gripping arcs inside, squeeze the socket at right angles to the direction of opening the strap. It is the creating of a slight oval in the socket, that makes the ring inside it more resistant to opening. Go too far? Might have to have it replaced at a shoe shop.
