SD Myres holster
I recently picked up this SD Myres holster. I think it is a model 614, but it has a factory safety strap, so it may be a different model. I put a dollar bill in the picture so you could determine it's size. It has "Tex." in the makers mark, so it is an older one. It is in really nice shape. I got it for a good price because I spotted it right after it was posted with a nice BIN, so I am trying to determine it's true value. Please put what you think it's value is. Thanks.

For some reason I can only put one picture per post. Here is the back of the holster. It looks like it is etched 3 1/4 and .38. I don't know if this was done by the factory, but it does seem like it will fit a gun with a 3 inch barrel.

That is the lesser-known No. 640. The difference does appear to be the standard strap; but also what Myres' competitor Heiser called the 'quick draw belt loop': the leather is cut away at the fold of the belt loop. Lawrence also had two versions of the Threepersons-style holster; one with standard loop, one with quick-draw cutaway. Can't help you on the fitment.
It is from Myres' 'early' period because it's marked 'tex' in the maker's mark; we believe but don't actually know that the early period was before Sam's death in '53. Can't even find a reason for the changeover. One could speculate without even being close, that the new stamp was created when Myres was taken over the first time in '65 by Harlon Webb. But Webb had his own version of the Myres stamp that were used on his saddles.
An excellent condition Myres can sell on a standard auction site for several hundred, on 'real' auction sites for ten times that; have a look through worthpoint.com for that info.

It wouldn't surprise me if your holster, on an auction, would go well
over $200.

Thanks for the information Red and Phil. So the Model 640 is basically a Model 614 with a safety strap. I had never seen one of those before. I have seen worthpoint.com on searches before, but have never signed up on their site. I think it was free though.
As far as the etching goes on the back of the holster, do you think it is factory or done by a previous owner? To me, the 3 1/4 seems like a strange number, instead of 3 or 3 1/2.
Hopefully some of you other folks have a Model 640? If you do, please post them up here for us all to enjoy. Thanks.
Larry

Same holster by Myres with strap and "dog ear" was
shown in catalog as model 624.

Larry:
Great holster!!!! That's a real beauty!!
Just guessing, but I think that some of the early I frame .38 S&W revolvers may have been made with the 3 1/4" bbl. I know that I have an early S&W Regulation Police in .32 S&W Long with that bbl length. But I'm no expert, Hondo or one of the other I and J frame gurus might be able to help....
Oh, you might try rebooting your iPad to see if it fixes the picture loading problem. I use an iPad for almost everything, and sometimes I just turn it off and then back on, and it straightens out the kinks. Sometimes I have to clear the browser history, but I hate to do that, cause I like keeping all my frequently used sites up.
Good Luck!!
Best Regards, Les

Thanks for the info Les. Since I don't have an I frame gun, that did not even cross my mind for a 3 1/4 inch barrel gun.
You are correct. I probably need to turn the iPad off. I can't remember the last time I did that. I, like you, hate to do it.
