Default Beautiful leather, I may have a problem!?

I love the simple beauty of leather holsters and am starting to realize that I want more of them. Some of my favorites I don’t even have guns that fit them. And while I do appreciate the look and artistry of carved holsters, I think I like the smooth leather even more. They just have that glow about them that I can stare at all evening.

I just picked up this one from Colorado Saddlery and it just has “that glow”.

While I made a business of holsters, including carved and tooled versions, my personal preference has always been for plain oiled-tan leather. Nothing else satisfies that little spot inside me that identifies the quality of a well-made leather holster, that satin-glow, the perfectly burnished edges, the perfect forming work.

I have a few that qualify for duty at any nice barbeque party, but most of my working holsters are very plain (until you start noticing the details).

And I can attest to what Lobo says. Here is a T3P with dog ear
he made for me several years ago. Perfection!

I hear you.

I have a Galco belt slide and shoulder rig for my work gun (Sig 229) and an Avenger for my 1911.

Quality Leather is a joy.

I've started to roll my own holsters and knife sheaths. My first holster effort is more prototype and "form over function" as it's a pocket holster. Doesn't look like much but it works well:

Next I think I'll make a belt with a split lining that will act as a holster.

And nothing smells as good as a new leather holster !

In the 60's my favorite cologne was " English Leather" !
I'm a wannabe leather worker who didn't quite have the skills for carving. But I did learn how to do some fancy lacing .

You are absolutely right!!!! I purchased this one from The Sand Burr Gun Ranch. It has a stainless steel inner liner so the holster can not loose it's shape. It was designed by Denny (owner) and Horseshoe Hill Leather out of Claypool Indiana.

That’s a great looking holster OP! I too have the affliction of accumulating leather holders for my wheelguns.

I just bought a Bianchi 5 bh tan leather with thumb-break holster for my K frames and my Ruger Security Six, it was on sale at Optics Planet for $45. Seems to be a high quality holster and it looks really good!

Well made oil tanned holsters are an art form as are knife sheaths. I love em.

I've been using Blackrock Leather 'n' Rich and it does a nice job on the
holsters. Only minor complaint is it leaves them kinda sticky for a while.
Our friend Red Nichols sent me a picture of a holster with a particularly
nice shine or glow, so I asked him what he uses.

He uses Fiebing's Tan-Kote. I got some at Tandys and tried it.
I like it. Here, below, is my Heiser HHH (457) FBI holster that I treated
with it and it turned out pretty good. I wish I had saved a "before" photo.

I actually use Renaissance wax and really like the results.

Not a big nylon fan but I do keep an old Bianchi Ranger model, probably the best of the nylon holsters ever offered:
