Default Pawn shop Bucheimer snag

I had some extra time this morning and stopped at a pawn shop after finishing some other errands. After looking at the used guitars and tools and knives, I strolled over the Main Event (the guns and accessories department). I saw this old Bucheimer B715 right away. I wasn't sure what if fit, but seemed as though it was made for a short barreled revolver, so I bought it. The price was $18. The holster is well designed and manufactured, and of first class material.

When I got home I found it fit my Model 642-2 perfectly, which was exactly what I was hoping! I have a Galco B819WC for it also, and it is a great holster, but it requires the belt to be undone to put it on, and for late at night taking the dog out one last time, it was more effort than I wanted, and a lot of times I left the house "naked" even though I know better.

The Galco holster offers greater concealability, while the Bucheimer offers easy on and off, and I don't need great concealability late at night in my neighborhood.

Here you can see the strap that goes behind the belt. It is only attached to the holster at the top...

Bucheimer holsters are usually very good quality. Yours looks great, congrats on the find! I like the vintage stuff, they don't make 'em like that anymore

It is in good shape, but shows finish wear, just like most of my favorite guns! I'm not going to re-stain it black and try to make it look new (just like I don't want my guns to look like fishing lures). I just put on a coat of Kiwi conditioning oil and called it good.

My guess is that this holster dates from about 1970.

Here is a picture of the Galco holster I referenced above:

Wow, that’s in really nice condition for an older holster. I have a weakness for vintage leather and need to stay off EBay. My holster drawer is full!

I took my "new" old holster on an outing tonight, and I really like it. It stays in place, and I like the slight forward cant. There is a tensioning screw on it that I forgot to mention, which I also like, since there is no retaining strap (which is just how it should be).

I knew it would not conceal the greatest, but I was wearing shorts and an untucked short sleeved shirt, and it got the job done just fine.

I have the same holster sized for a 2.5" K-frame.
Works great for my Rossi 971.
Nice piece of gunleather.
Great snag.

That is a neat little paddle holster. Your J Frame looks good in it too.
Great pick.

The style was made by virtually every maker of police leather in the 1960s. Bucheimer's and Bucheimer-Clark's have only one shared shortfall, and that was their use of a 'corrected grain' leather. Less expensive in sheet form, and better cutting economy, because the grain was sanded free of blemishes and then painted to finish the job completely :-). Unfortunately not a 'first quality' benchmark, nevertheless their gear worked and is becoming collectible.

^^^ OK, so the holster is very common and made of second rate material. Thank you sir for your invaluable insight.

Warren, I have one exactly like yours...the only difference is that I bought mine back in 1974 or 1975... They were very popular with police officers for plainclothes duty, as they could be taken off easily and stuck in a locker when fingerprinting arrestees and so forth. I'll try to remember where I stashed it...haven't used it for a long time, but your post reminded me of it. I have picked up a couple of other Bucheimer holsters in the last couple of years as well...but with more conventional belt attachments.

You have a very nice holster there, and it should last indefinitely.

Best Regards, Les

Here's a Don Hume spring-post holster with paddle belt loop in the more traditional Clark pattern for the spring.
