I RESCUED GEORGE LAWRENCE
One of his holsters that is. I mentioned this holster over on the
cigarette smoke thread. I was surfing on the bay, as I frequently
do, and came across a George Lawrence 34B. 34 is the FBI
model "extra quick draw". It was looking quite pitiful and it was
one of those "make an offer" deals. I kinda like to find distressed
classics and clean them up.
Left to right photos below:
"Before" of the front.
"Before" of the back.
"After"" of the front.
"After" of the back.
With my model 19 on board on my Lawrence cartridge belt,
with other accessories.
First thing I did was check the fit. The Lawrence size code 526
is for K38, Combat Masterpiece, Colt Official Police, etc. I tried
my model 67 Combat Masterpiece. It fit a little sloppy. That's
probably why a previous owner had installed the retention strap.
My model 19 was a good fit, even though Lawrence size code
for the 19 is 549.
The next thing I did was take the strap off. A retention strap on
an "extra quick draw holster" is an oxy-moron. (pun intended)
I ordinarily give a holster like this a bath in warm water with a few
drops of Dove. Then wrap my gun in Saran wrap and let it dry
over night. But the fit was so good on this one, I just wrapped
my mycro-fiber cloth around two fingers and dipped into the
warm water Dove mix and cleaned the holster front back and
inside.
The final step was the Fiebing's Tan Kote. With thanks to my
friend Red Nichols.
I think it turned out OK for a seventeen dollar holster.

You rescued George Lawrence? Didn't he die, in like 1922?
Your Lazarus treatment has worked wonders on that holster. My own yesterday, on a tired Myres that was destined for a pattern anyway, was an unmitigated disaster. too far gone. And I was unsupervised. I'm sending all my restorations to you from now on, Phil.

I have a George Lawrence Gunslinger 2 for a 7 1/2 in Ruger Super Blackhawk. I bought it new in the mid 70's. Still looks like new. They oiled that leather up to last 100 years. I gave the holster to my son. This weekend I am giving him the stainless Super Blackhawk ( fired 1 box) to put in it
