Default HOLSTER BEAUTY CONTEST?

Over the past many years I have collected a lot of holsters.
Some of them, particularly the carved ones, I would put in the
beautiful category.
I had a little beauty contest this morning with all of the carved
holsters I have had as contestants.
Thought you might like to see the one I finally chose as the winner.
Myres #614 Tom Threespersons. Left gun and other accessories
out of the picture to concentrate on the simple beauty of the
holster.
Do you have a winner in your collection. Let's see it.
PS if you click on the picture it enlarges it. Click again
and it enlarges even more.

Hard to break it down to one. One of my all time favorites is this Colorado Saddlery for a 6.5" N frame.

While my collection is meager by Crazyphil standards, this Heiser 417 really fits my style. Simple but elegant.

I think the pictures are the best part of the forum. It inspires me to try and do better. There are some real craftsmen out there..

When I was making a few holsters for folks I got bored making 'Plain Black'. But, every once in awhile I played around a bit and tried to get fancy..

( edit: the bone grips on the 1911 & knife really aren't that white ,, just poor picture taking on my part)

This pair by S.D. Myres was reportedly made for an Abercrombie & Fitch sales representative. Even Colts deserve beautiful holsters.

I've always liked Alfonso's holsters and would have to say this one, a beautifully carved flap holster for a snub Python, is probably the best-looking holster I own:

Attn. Phil: note the small "dog ear", an interesting feature.

I recently sold this one for a Ruger Single Six. It was just so pretty I rarely wore it. Was from a Tennessee holster maker that retired in 2014.

This is mine. It's a vintage Hunter from around the "50" or "60's". My first but not my last.

Question about carving. Here, on the left, is section of a Ranger style
belt by Justin, that they say is Sheridan style carving.
2nd photo from the left is a holster made in Mexico. I don't know who
made it, but it looks kinda like Reyes work. Made in Mexico, I would
think it would therefore be an example of Mexican carving.
The question is what is the difference between Mexican carving and
Sheridan style carving?

Not nearly as ornate as the spirit of this thread, but this holster was made for my Hi Power by a LEO friend about 45 years ago. He has long since passed, but the memory of watching him make this for me is a good one. Gold elk suede lined

The first is a felt lined Bianchi model 16L for a 6” medium (K) frame. I believe maybe 70's vintage?

The floral is a Heiser made for Buffalo Brand Sporting Goods around the early 50’s according to the experts here. This one fits a 5” N frame.

L. D. Turner was a maker out of Chattanooga, TN. I think he made some quite handsome holsters:

Neither is Sheridan, which is characterised by circular layouts that you will see on Lawrences. Google will tell you all about the Sheridan style.

The term 'mexican carving' is Heiser's and his carvers were all Anglos as were Myres. They are all listed in various resources. I expect that the term was used to indicate the source of the style; which Mexico itself got from the Spanish; which Sam Myres pointed out came from the Moors.

The carving on Spanish saddles is magnificent. I've a big coffee table book that displays them and at some point I will scan a few from it n post them here for you.

Speaking of images have just received the images of Threepersons Colt from its private owner; and shortly will receive images from The Autry of his Colt that they hold. This will complete the set for the book, because already have images of his Winchester and his Triple Lock from their owner

Gentlemen, there are some beautiful holsters shown here and excellent photography skills too. Here are a few from my collection. The holster with the Colt SAA is lined with calfskin, no maker markings but I suspect Mexican origin. The Eubanks with oak leaf carving is the only Eubanks I have ever seen with that motif. The Faust holster is also not often seen, the stamping pattern is unusual and the quality is every bit as good as a Lawrence from the same era.

I've got some neat holsters, but not too many pretty ones.
This one is a bit unusual and looks pretty good.
Safety Speed Clamshell for a 6-inch K-38. Popular police holsters in Southern California back in the 60s and 70s.

The carving on Spanish saddles is magnificent. I've a big coffee table book that displays them and at some point I will scan a few from it n post them here for you.

Justin refers to that belt, in their advertisement, as Sheridan
style carving. I don't think they would lie in their ad. Probably
just didn't know better.

I have a few holsters that I think would fill the bill for this contest. Here is one of my favorites:

Agreed. This is Tandy's book on the subject, a Lawrence catalogue cover, a cut from a Lawrence belt:

Thank you for that Red. Does any other notable makers,
other than Lawrence, use the Sheridan style?
Remember this Lawrence? I sold it, but kept the picture.

Default Hometown favorite

Here is one that was made here in town. It is calf skin lined. Don't get too upset at the 1911 and it's rigging, it was mostly done to annoy a member here who was terribly averse to the open trigger style.

I've got several carved holsters that are pretty nice looking, but this one might be my favorite. Maybe....

Only having one my choice was easy.
If I had more it would still be easy as this came from a friend.

Not my personal favorites here but not too bad I reckon...

Tex Shoemaker for a 2.5" 1917 Colt

Eubanks holster for a 6" M&P

Saquaro Gunleather (Tom Dyer) for a 2.5" K-frame

Saquaro Gunleather for a 4" N-frame

Saquaro Gunleather for a 2.5" N frame

Here's another one that ain't too shabby. The only Heiser 757 I ever saw for a 8-3/8" K frame, but will also fit a 7-1/2" SAA like a glove. That's a 6" K-22 in the pic - since I don't have a K frame with a longer tube.

Surely this rig by Professor NIchols would be a finalist
in any beauty contest. And I will stop calling you Surely.
