Default RANGER BELT VIRTUES

A couple of years ago Red Nichols schooled me on the virtues
of the Ranger style belt. He made the Brill-Persons and Ranger
belt for me shown at left below.

That got me interested in Ranger belts, so the next one I bought
was the Justin, second from left, that was represented as Sheridan style,
but it's not according to Red.

Third from left is a James Ranger belt I found for the Brill rig.

4th from left is a Carson Ranger belt that I got for the Myres
#614 T3P.

A couple of years ago I got a nice holster from David Keith for
my 1911 Colt Gold Cup, but I didn't get a belt at that time.
Here, 5th from left, is the gorgeous Ranger style belt by David
Keith, that came in the mail today.

For my Freedom Arms Model 97s, Ruger SP101 4.2-inch barrel, and "Shooter's Model" Pietta Remington 1858 revolver I have three Bianchi B-3 ranger belts, and one Don Hume. All have visited my custom holster maker (Wes Daems, 7X Leather, Ennis, Montana, holsters, tack, and saddles). While he was making holsters - thank you Red for steering my "wants" to good "haves" - he reinforced the stitched-on male strip of leather by affixing it with a copper?? rivet upside down so it would not scrape anything.

This holster-belt combination allows 40+ ounces loaded F.A. 97s to disappear. That is, heavy-for-me revolver becomes unnoticeable in use.

How about schooling ME on the virtues of the Ranger belt. I like their looks, but that's pretty much all I know about them. Except that I don't see how they would fit through most holster belt loops due to their thickness.

Default THE GOOD, THE BAD, IMO

GOOD: #1 VERY COMFORTABLE, They don't seem to slide up/down, I like the width.

THE BAD: #1 they don't have all that much adjustable range, if your wt fluctuates. If you gain wt & like collecting ranger belts move this to the good area.
They can get sweat soaked, a little loose & the edges can roll.

Getting the belt through the holster loop is just something you need to
plan for when you get the belt made. The Ranger style belt does not go
through the loops on your pants. It is worn just a bit below the regular
pants belt that goes through the pants loops.

Yes, you called it right. It mates up nicely with the Grashorn's
on my Model 10 snub shown here.

And that's a bit surprising, as I read that Grasshorn uses domestic elk antler, and Puma uses sambar stag and/or Red Deer antler from Germany.

All three animals are genus Cervus, but grain patterns of the antler usually differ more than on your gun and knife.

I think you got lucky that they match.

Oh, I see. I was thinking of the "ranger" belts that are typically seen in catalogs and stores.

I sent a picture of the Puma Prince to Patrick at Grashorn and
he went through the inventory and found several choices for
me. These matched up the best.

Default DEPENDS ON THE BELT & PANTS.

The width's of the belts are clearly marked. I used 1 3/4" belts, primarily to hold my pants up & "USUALLY" managed to get the belts thru the loops. Dress pants, forget about it. Those BIG $ custom belts designed specifically to carry guns I couldn't afford then or now, are a whole other story. Check the specs.

I love Ranger Belts - but I just wear them with Jeans and don't use them as Gun Belts - at least I never have......
