Paladin by Arvo Ojala
I was at the LGS this AM and spotted this neat holster.
Pictures to follow because if you opened this thread you already know the names.

Dummy rounds, pure silver rook and signed.
Like new and for sale. Anyone know of a John that identifies with Paladin?

I can post the info if a Mod gives me the go ahead. Or I will give info via PM.
The number designates size 40.
It's beautiful but I have no use for it.

Very nice item. I'd be interested in the cost of it as well. Since I lost a lot of gun leather in my house fire last Spring this holster definitely gets my attention.
I have the perfect gun for it:

PS:
How many of you have ever wondered about why they showed Marshall Dillon LOSING the gunfight and how did he not get shot?
Query on that holster - if Arvo made it was it metal lined for the fast draw game or standard lining?

Paladin carried a 7 1/2 in. bbl.,which is what the holster fits. Just for general info,Richard Boone hated horses and did not like to ride.

I guessed as much. A "quick draw" or "fast draw" holster made for when that game was super popular. 1950s and 60s. Some of the most well known figures in Hollywood of that era were champions of the game. IIRC, Mel Torme was a huge gun collector and engaged in that game and was heard to describe either/both (I forget) Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis, Jr.'s speed as "kind of sudden".
I always liked that remark.

Permission granted. Thanks turnerriver.
He's asking $750 and seems firm.
Oops
I posted his number and that isn't what I was given permission to do.

Interesting mix of two famous maker’s leather. I wonder if someone outgrew their Ojala belt and had Alfonso’s make a matching belt that fits. Or someone bought it though it didn’t fit because they wanted the holster and had the belt made. Excellent outfit.

^^^ Good questions.
I didn't inspect it that well.
Note that the inscription to John is on the belt signed Arvo.

Which has the Alfonso stamp, the holster or the belt? I assumed it was the belt at first until I saw the inscription from Arvo was on It.

Now I'm not so sure. I thought the same.
I guess I'll try to get by there tomorrow again. I've been eyeballing a Ruger Mk II he has.

I stopped by today and looked again. The belt is stamped Arvo, The holster Alfonzo.
The previous owner's name is John and he supposedly knew Arvo.
After pointing it out the shop owner kinda got short in knowledge about it.
It's still a nice rig.
Back to metal lining, This one is leather inside. I'm not sure what he was talking about. Is there a liner between the metal and the gun? What do I know? I'm no gunslinger.

The metal is sandwiched between the heavy exterior and the thin lining. The shape of the metal allows the cylinder to rotate as it is coming out of the holster, saving enough time to possibly win a match. The interior lining protects the finish on the gun from being scratched on the metal.

Remember- In a gunfight you can't MISS fast enough to win!
Also surprised no mention that it's a knight and not a rook.

Speaking of both Lewis and Davis, I sure wish I could have used the following in The Book, because it's one thing to say it, and another to see it:

Arvo Ojala holster. Is this anything special? Please help.
Picked an Arvo Ojala quick draw holster up at a random thrift shop. I know the back story but i am unsure if this is anything special or not. Can y'all help?

eBay recent sales for Ojala black fast draw single action holsters run from $60 for a left hand model up to $355 for a complete belt & holster rig.
There are variations and some bring more money than others. They are well made collectible holsters.
Regards,
