Just seems to be the the perfect match for my 17 no dash (circa 60-61). I believe it to be a 60’s era holster - am I close? I just love the old classic look of the pair sporting just enough honest wear to tell a story.

The L means laced and the B means basket weave. Only reference book
I have is 1970 Shooters Bible. There is a model 24 which looks very
similar, but no model 25. turnerriver will probably enlighten us when
he comes around.

The Lawrence section of my 1960 Stoeger's shows the 25 described as:
No. 25. Popular modified Mexican style for revolvers or automatics, Wide loop for belt or may be carried in pocket, Safety strap to keep gun secure. Open end prevents dirt gathering.
25 Plain...................,,,,$6.05
25B Basketweave..........$8.00
25F Flower design.......$10.20

No. 25L. Same construction and quality as No. 25 except with leather laced seam.
25LP plain....................$8.25
25LB Basketweave.......$10.20
25LF Flower design......$12.40

The Lawrence basket weaves are beautiful.I have a shoulder holster for Colt SAA 45 zI used to wear in the USAF.Dates to mid 1950’s.
A few years later one similar to that illustrated for the same piece. What a bargain price!

I don't own any of George Lawrence leather gear, but I do have three S&W revolvers with factory letters stating they were shipped to George Lawrence store.

I might have to find a George Lawrence holster to put with one of the pistols.

Your images are really well done!

Have a look at turnerriver's expert commentary on Lawrence, which will tell you about the era your holster was made in.

The standout for me was that the maker's mark was stamped before the basketweave, which then obliterated all of one side of the former :-).

Apparantly Lawrence made a lot of that style with different model
numbers. I have one that is marked 20. I also have the one shown
here that is marked 2. It is a Challenger which Lawrence described
as follows: "a stock line of holsters that offer Lawrences quality
construction in a lighter grade of leather. Custom extras are not
available on the Challenger Line." The floral carving must have been
before that restriction.

The George Lawrence Co. was a Smith & Wesson distributor for a number of years. The model 25 was their flagship holster, the model 24 was the same holster with a snap-off belt feature. The size group number 8 indicates your holster was made post WW II and before 1963 when Lawrence started using a 3 digit size code.
Thanks for posting it.
Regards,
turnerriver

Thanks for the info Gentlemen, I appreciate it. I find it especially cool that the revolver and holster literally could have been purchased on the same day (hypothetically). I enjoy trying to piece together "combos". Look out squirrels, beer cans, apples, and any other small objects in my woods!
