Rubber cement for leather belt lining?
I have some little bottles of great leather adhesive for serious projects but was wondering if good ol’ rubber cement also works with a belt lining maintaining pliability. I have a personal belt idea using scrap leather and thought I’d try rubber glue instead. Any reason why I shouldn’t, you think? If I had some around the house I’d do a practice piece but don’t have any. I’m asking this assuming rubber cement is cheaper than leather specific glue.

I have used rubber contact cement for years to bond together double-thickness gunbelts. Works fine.

I can't think of any good reason (including cost savings) one would run any risk at all with a first-rate bond.

I have never tried rubber cement on a belt.
Barge contact cement and stitching is my usual method.
One time I did just use Barge contact cement and no stitching . Just to see IF and how long the contact cement would hold together. I wore it for quite awhile ( weeks ) and it never came apart. I think I still have it around here somewhere and it's still together..
I have rubber cement around here somewhere. But, I Never use it on any thing I want to stay together.

Suggest you put item in the general position it will be used, ie-curved for a belt, etc, And I like Tandy's leather epoxy cement for those projacts-it's made expressly for that application.
