Shoulder (not chest) holsters for X frames?
Any recommendations for a shoulder holster for X frame revolvers? All I've seen are chest holsters. This would be for a 460V or the 6.5 inch. 500.
Thanks!

A quick look at Google revealed nothing- all the holsters listed that would accommodate your revolver were chest carry holsters. I thought one of the nylon makers would have one but I couldn’t find any.

I would look for a custom holster maker to inquire about your request. No one making one suggests a very small demand, or it has been tried and found to be uncomfortable.

I suspected but did look it up: the bloody thing weighs up to 80 ounces. Shoulder holsters per se are not useful for big guns, no matter the many that have been sold for 8-3/8" N frames et al. Only Bond got it right, with a little auto in his. The chest holster, for which we must credit Jim Buffaloe ex of Roy Baker's operations (but the rest of us did it better), carries big guns where they can have their weight distributed well. Under the armpit one will be quite lopsided with that much bulk, length, weight. Unless one were a giant of a man (which the O.P. might be, in which case, ignore) :-).
The point: if and when anyone wants to use an underarm holster (at Bianchi we named one of them as the 'Right Guard' -- for underarm protection) then choose a small pistol. When one wants to carry a big gun, carry it somewhere else, that the body will cope with.

Sorry.. I've been at work!!
I've got a 500 Mag, 8-3/8" barrel and the vertical shoulder holster I got for her is the Uncle Mike's Sidekick Size 4. A very comfortable holster that I've only worn at the house and range so far after I got it adjusted. I had to modify the holster belt loop as the thing was riding too high for a comfortable draw so I used some Velcro attached to the inside of the loop to adjust it to where I was comfortable and it fit's great!! Here's a link and with the 6.5" barrell, you might want a size 3.
Edit: I had to find a different link as for some reason it wasn't working right. Click on the Amazon and you'll go to the page for the size 3..

Respectfully,I gotta differ with you a bit Red as I used a vertical rig very similar to what I just posted for more than a few years toting a 8-3/8" Model 29. I wore it all day long and never really even noticed the weight nor did it throw me off balance any.. And I'm not that big of a guy....
Of course carrying my hunting knife did kinda "counterbalance" the rig a bit...

I would contact Dave @ " Cochise Leatherworks " in SE Az . He is a custom leather crafter for holsters , belts and saddles . He has made several holsters , belt and shoulder for me . He's a one man shop so don't take up a lot of his time on the phone . Time is money to him . I hope this helps , Paul

Thanks Gents! That's helpful. To Red's post, I'm a pretty big guy and don't think the pistol weight being off my left shoulder will be a big issue for me.

A.E. Nelson lists their Untouchables for the 6.5 inch X frame. I have two, one for a Colt 6 inch OP and the other for a Colt 1917 and like them but in Central MS shoulder holsters don't used much
