Default holster suggestions for concealed carry.

Hey all-I just purchased a Ruger GP-100 5 inch .44 Special-It has a 5 shot unfluted cylinder, and a full underlug barrel. I have carried in the IWB appendix position for many years, and would like to carry this revolver in the same general position. I could carry OWB in that general position if necessary. I now carry (and have) a Bull Dog .44 IWB appendix. I realize the Ruger is longer and heavier, but it is about the same thickness. I'm a Big man, 6'4" 350-and wear square bottom shirts un- tucked, so I've some "hiding places" so to speak. Suggestions appreciated, questions welcome. Thanks!

Since no one else has a suggestion I will take a swing at it:
Look at Ross Driver's holsters or something similar. They ride
almost horizontal on your belt in front, usually cross draw.
Last time I looked, Amazon was marketing Ross, as was Midway.
Here's a picture of mine with a snub nosed model 10.

Big gun for sure...... I've been using Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB since the 1980s .... for K-frame revolvers 3-4" and autos as large as 1911s and Beretta 92s.

I'm 5'9" and 165.

Check your seated clearance...... "top of belt to leg" to see if you have room for a 5" Large frame Ruger. Personally I've only got about 4"s to work with so I carry at about 4 O'clock where I have about 8" from the top of my belt to a seat..

Cross-draw I like the Bianchi 111 Cyclone.

Allow me to make a few comments:

1. The larger holster makers tend to concentrate production capacity on the more popular handguns and holster designs. This means that revolver holsters are not a large part of the product line to begin with, and revolvers with odd barrel lengths (2.5", 3", 3.5", 5") can be difficult to find. Your market niche is more likely to be filled by the smaller production shops that cater more to revolver owners.

2. AIWB carry of a 5" large-frame revolver may be possible, but not for everone, and could be challenging from a comfort standpoint. If you are committed to this holster style you may find it necessary to try several designs before either finding one that works for you, or discovering that it just will not work for you.

3. Suggest that you have a look at the website of Lobo Gun Leather (now owned by the Fedders family of Ely, Minnesota). You will find a couple of IWB designs with a cant (carry angle) that could work for appendix-position carry, and Lobo Gun Leather has focused on revolver holsters in general and different barrel lengths in particular for years.

4. My usual recommendation for the best combination of comfort, accessibility, security, and concealment with the larger revolvers has always been the pancake-style holsters. Lobo Gun Leather offers what I believe to be the best (probably because I designed it) in the Enhanced Pancake Model.

Best regards.

The GP100, not accidentally, is close to the S&W 'L' and Colt Python, for holster purposes. Knowing that will give you more options with the holster makers you encounter. More good news is that your physique is suited to the big gun, too.
