Default Bucheimer Semi-Shoulder holster ?

I saw a "Bucheimer Semi-Shoulder holster" mentioned in an article somewhere a couple of days ago and have been trying to find out what this holster is. I've searched for pictures of one but the pictures I found don't seem to show anything but some odd-looking holster. Can anyone enlighten me or show me a picture of one, please?

It is a spring holster that attaches to a belt piece via a piece of steel that slips up into a recess in the back of the holster, and the holster is secured to the belt piece by a snap. The belt piece remains attached to the belt and the holster can be removed easily by unsnapping the holster section, which is worn cross-draw. The holster itself is situated up above the line of the belt, hence the description of "semi-shoulder holster." The holster is positioned cross-draw in approximately the same location as a shoulder holster, but without the straps across the shoulder. This type of holster was made by almost everyone that made the spring holster. Brauer Brothers of St. Louis made this model, as did Bucheimer, and many others.

Thanks, Shawn - I understand it now. Even though I like shoulder holsters, and crossdraw, that thing looks quite awkward.

The Brauer Bros. model has a belt tunnel on the back, so I just discarded
the rest of the contraption and use it as a regular cross-draw. If anyone
uses the semi-shoulder feature they probably find that it has flop-itis.

Back in the 1960s the Bucheimer Semi Shoulder Holster was quite popular. Some people did not like the straps of the real shoulder holster and used this. One of my fellow gun nuts bought the Colt Snub Nose Python and wore it in a Bucheimer Semi Shoulder. He convinced me that was the way to go for my 3" S&W J frame. I of course tried it but soon left the plate attachment off. I still have both parts but doubt that I will ever use the belt attachment piece again.

I remember the semi-shoulder holsters from the 1960's and 1970's. Interesting concept, and relatively difficult to manufacture. The major drawback is that the weight of the holstered handgun is centered far above the belt-line, which means that the holstered handgun will always tend to tip out away from the body and shift position during normal body movements. This problem may be partially (but probably not fully) compensated for by the use of a very sturdy belt that is closely fitted to the holsters belt attachment points, but the semi-shoulder holsters that I have examined do not have belt attachment points that are adaptable to a close fit to the belt.

As I said, this is an interesting concept, but one that did not work out very well in actual application.

Best regards.

Given that it was patented, by J.M. Bucheimer (not Bucheimer-Clark, its subsidiary)(different designers), it surprises me just how many companies made versions of the semi-shoulder holster, including Heiser. I have a photo file (hard drive) of all of 'em.

+1. As a cross-draw, or even strong side at about 3:00 mine worked just fine and secured a 2" Colt Lawman as well as anything else I owned. If I ever tried it with the "contraption" I'm sure I didn't do it twice.

I worked at Freelands in Rock Island ,Il in the late 60's and early 70's and we sold a bucket load of those holsters. I remember most guys then using the holster only as a regular belt model without the lower part.
