Received a holster with a gun which in no way fit each other (longer barrel than the closed bottom holster) and seller had no clue where it came from or what it was made for so home it came and then the "research" started....and ended almost as quickly with the only hits being stuff on FleaBay that those sellers had no clue either.
Holster in question is pebble grain top side leather, about 3/16" + thick, hammer shroud, closed bottom, appears molded (from age I guess) to a revolver cylinder, belt loop fits my 2" Galco heavy gun leather belt, and belt loop is set for forward cant, right hand strong side carry. Good stitching.
Makes marks on backside "Monte Carlo", Hand Made, USA, D L 6 1.
Now the mystery...about 1-1/2" too long for my Model 36 2" snubbie, Model 637 1-7/8" or other J-Frame.
It does fit my Model 36-1 with 3" bbl, and seems to fit the 1st Model (1888) safety hammerless with 3-1/2" bbl, although I really doubt forward cant holsters were in vogue at that time, and a hammer loop with snap would be kind of out-of-place for a hammerless revolver.
So...........anybody out there ever hear of Monte Carlo holsters or have an idea of what DL 61 may be for? I saw an old post on a leather working forum where a guy was looking for a replacement IWB spring clip to "make his own" Monte Carlo that had bit the dust.
My Model 36-1 shown in the holster has an awful lot of grip hanging out there, but on the other hand this "rig" rides nice and high, correct cant for me....so I may have found another rig to give my range RSO something to do as he "holster qualifies" me with the Model 36 in this guy.
Just wondering if anybody ever saw one. Maybe a Hopalong Cassidy cap gun when Hoppy applied for FBI
