I have an Alessi Talon IWB holster for my 642 that is a great holster.I have a few of theirs, and while they aren't cheap, they are well made and wear very well.

Nearly all pancake style holsters will do a great job of hiding a little J frame. I doubt any maker could foul that up. Personally I send folks to Galco for an over-the-counter solution in gunleather.
That said, with the very short barrels you'll either want the full hoop of the trigger guard buried in the holster (so no Threepersons method) or a thumbsnap.
You might pay most attention to carry angle of any maker you consider, though. The more vertical the top strap (perpendicular to the ground) the more forward it will want to be carried, to avoid an awkward, broken-wrist draw. With a pistol that small, with factory grips, any angle will conceal, but just any angle won't keep it at, say, 4:00 so it doesn't show with an unzipped jacket, for example.

For my Model 640-1, as well as other J Frames, I have found the pancake holster made by Simply Rugged to work really well for me. Simple holster, sturdy and well made, comfortable, stays where I put it on my belt, and the carry angle works for me. It draws easily and with care, the return to holster works just fine. Holstering never needs to be done quickly without paying strict attention to the business at hand anyway! I am very careful when holstering any handgun in any holster! The cost is very reasonable for what I have received. All mine are plain but they can dress them up as well. Delivery time is good, and they have been excellent to work with and deal with. My J Frames are easily concealed underneath about any cover garment I choose to wear when carrying OWB. The overall shape of the holster on my belt results in a very small smooth and rounded bulge on my waistband and the holsters do not hang down very far below my beltline. These are simple and rugged holsters that do the job very well for me.

Thanks for the suggestions I believe that I have several good options lined up now. All that's left is to make a choice and get it headed my way.

My favorite OWB is the Black Hills shark high ride pancake style shown
on the left. The belt is also shark by Crescent.
My favorite IWB is the Delfatti shark trim on the right.

A word of caution before you order! The model 640 Pro's barrel is longer than the barrels on most two inch J frame revolvers and may not fit in a well molded holster made for a J frame but not the Pro. My 640 Pro's barrel, according to a Starrett caliber, is 2.165" from the muzzle to the forcing cone. A model 642 measures only 1.865", a difference of 0.300". That's enough difference to keep my Pro from properly fitting a Kramer holster designed for the model 642. Make sure that whoever you order from, that they understand that you are ordering for the Pro's nominal 2 1/8" barrel.
Milt Sparks is my first pick for an IWB holster for any handgun.

I picked up a Lobo Gun Leather Enhanced Pancake for my 640 PRO and really like it.
Also used it at a TDI Ohio snubby course for a couple days and it performed very well.

I use a Kramer belt scabbard for OWB, and an IWB #2 for concealing under a T-shirt. They are both made from horsehide and fit the gun perfectly. Kramer makes a very high quality holster.

I'm very happy with my Sideguard Quick Clip for my 640 Pro. The holster rests slightly lower on the belt so concealment is maximized, and the clip is offset so it doesn't protrude as far as most. The 640 Pro is the black holster, and is about 1/4" longer than the one for the 642 to accommodate the longer barrel.

Are you against aiwb carry and kydex? I ask because i have one for a pro that should be here monday and i will post up pics for you. I love aiwb for the ease of carry, closeness of the firearm, and really makes the gun disappear. plus it works out better for vehicle seat belt carry as well. just a thought...
below is a pic of my 642 in the aiwb that i have for the standard air weight models with my pro next to it. I will post a pic of the pro model when i get it.

Eagle1, if you don't mind my asking, who made that holster. It's exactly what I'm looking for. Sorry for sort of hijacking the thread. Best, Joe

joe, it was a local gun show guy that came up with this for me a couple years ago. He has since sold the business however i can point you in the direction of some other makers i found that are doing these types of holster if you pm me. I actually have one coming this week for my 640 Pro so I will post that one up when i get it too.

My J-frames ride in a OWB holster made for me from Lobo Gunleather. Could not be more pleased with it.
