anyone else have a Herb Wilmeth holster?
don't remember when I got this, but yesterday while rummaging thru my holster drawer I noticed this card in the holster telling some history of the maker. I showed it to Phil and he was not familiar with him so I thought I would throw it out here. it is a very well made, forward cant holster for a gov't model: shown with my S&W 1911. thanks in advance. lee

I own one by Alamo Leather, SATX, that is just like yours except the lining on mine is a cream-white.
I bought it in SATX in the mid-sixty's. Other than lining color, they are twins. I'm really happy with mine.
I know nothing about the maker of yours though, sorry.

I asked Red and he didn't know anything about him either.
BTW both attempts to answer your email failed so I sent
you a PM.

It is a style that correctly is called a Donihoo and is incorrectly thought of as a Threepersons for the auto and claimed by John Bianchi (both are wrong). Jack Donihoo, like your maker, was an ex-WWII G.I.; in his case he went straight out the door from the Army with his 1911 and into Dallas P.D. I have lots of information about Jack and a standout is that he canvassed every maker of the '60s to make his holster and that even included Seventrees of all people.
1963 bianchi donihoo.jpg Jack worked the JFK assassination crime scene in Dallas.
So I'm struck by the coincidence of time and place and service of the two men. It certainly was WWII that launched the 45 Government into civilian use; all the founding members of leatherslapping with the 1911 were ex-WWII military especially Jeff Cooper who popularized its use beginning in the 1950s.

Starlia, please introduce yourself to the forum. Normally we don’t have buying and selling going on in the forums except in the Classifieds section but I would like the forum to know who you are and why you’re seeking a Wilmeth holster.
