Default Chest rig for 3” 629

Hello All,
Hiking season will be here soon, and I would like to find a leather chest rig for my 3” model 629. I usually carry a lumbar pack, which precludes using a belt holster. I’ve seen quite a few on line, but none look to be available for a 3” N-frame. BTW I am left handed.

Thanks!

Check out the chest rigs from Hill People gear. Keeps the gun off your waist and works very well with a backpack. Just don't try to stuff too much other "survival" gear in it.

Yep, Simply Rugged can make you a rig for what you need. This rig can be attached to any Simply Rugged Pancake Holster. Good luck!

Diamond D.

Had them make me a chest holster for my Model 1917 .45 for deer hunting last fall.

Works great!

Another nod to Diamond D. You can spec their gear out to fit almost every need.

Another vote for Diamond D Custom Leather. My SIL has one and loves it.

I wanted a Double D brand chest holster.
Before I actually bought one my SIL gifted me a Kenai brand w/ a Kydex/nylon blend holster.
I never would have thought I'd have like a "plastic" holster. But since I always wear a jacket or vest for cover looks don't matter so much. The straps are wide and the clips are large enough. It's comfortable.
It was made to fit a 686 w a 3" BBL. I also carry a 4" 686 in it.
Excellent retention, I like it a lot.
I'd still like one of the the D D ones, perhaps for my N frame revos.

Default simply rugged

While Simply Rugged has been mentioned what you need to know is that they make an adapter for their Chesty Puller system that will allow most ALL of your holsters to adapt to this system. The only ones that do not work are very wide Pancake styles that will not fit into the available adapters spacing. I have owned most all of the good stuff over $150+ and once I discovered this set-up, all were SOLD. Check it out before you make a final decision.

I use a Galco Alaskan for 3 and 4 inch N frames. I find it very comfortable carrying 36 to 43 ounce N frames for 8 hours on the trail.

I have a Tanker for my 3 inch also. The weight of the gun is all on the shoulder. What I like about the DD is that you can cinch the holster on so that the weight is carried by the chest and not on the shoulder completely. doesn't saw on your neck at all. It also adjusts immediately, for whatever you wish to wear {over a coat or under, different bulk}

I had a DD made for my 3 inch 629 and have also been able to use it with my M 69 2 3/4 inch. I many times wear it under a partially buttoned shirt when in the woods.

I use and recommend the Kenai chest holster from Gunfighter Inc. I carry a Ruger SP101 four inch in it. Comfortable with great access and retention.

Robert, the owner of Survival Sheath has a fantastic chest rig that he makes in kydex. He can make one for you and your gun. I highly recommend them.

I have a Diamond D Alaskan Guide for my snubby 66 that works well for hiking/hunting in cooler weather. I also have a Hill People chest pack that will carry a variety of handguns, both revolver and semi-auto, that I like for more strenuous activity such as backpacking with heavier loads.

I really like my Diamond D guides choice chest rig carrying my 329PD, comfortable, easy on and off. Bonus is it can be worn as a nearly under the arm rig and conceals reasonably under a flannel if revolver is positioned just right.

I use and recommend the Kenai chest holster from Gunfighters, Inc, as well. I have two holsters for mine - one for N frame Smiths (all my N frames fit it) and one for Glock 20. I have carried a 629 Classic with the full length underlug barrel all day long while elk hunting without undo stress.

They also make a sweet IWB holster, with I wear every day with a G26.

Thanks, I found this useful info. I was going to post a question for experiences and feedback about the Kenai chest rig after reading about it in the Winter 2020 outdoor life mag. But after reading this, and the previous post above, I think I'm buying.

I've been hunting crossdraw for 15 years now, but it just doesn't work in cold weather were your outer garment is going to cover up the gun. I'm thinking this should be big enough to go on the outside of my top coat.
