Pedersoli Howdah
OK guys and gals, I think this is the best place for this, if not, I'm sure the Mods will redirect:
I just bought a new Pedersoli Howdah Alaskan that:
1) I'm not sure I'm going to keep.
2) If I do, I'm not sure how I want to tote the thing so am looking for rig suggestions which will likely include a custom carry rig.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions as to how to best carry it and, who best to help direct me where to get it.

Quick goggle search found this.
Need a Holster for Your Pedersoli Howdah? Try the DeSantis Midnight Express
Or you can bring to me and leave a while and I'll make one for it. I'll try it out a while to be sure it works.

I just know I’m probably the only guy here who never saw one of these.
So just for me, please post a picture!

A giant, two-shot .410?
Well, if you like it that’s all that matters. The original Ithaca Auto & Burglar was a 20 gauge. THAT would be interesting, butncurrent laws don’t allow for it.

Happy to! Please excuse the packing foam visible at the end of the barrels in image 2.

Giant is a bit overstated and honestly, no, I'm really not sure that I like it.

I shot a 16 ga vintage one once. Hit the target and quit while I was ahead! First you need an elephant, then get one of those baskets to ride in and then put a leather pouch in the basket for the gun. If the tiger jumps on the elephant or in the basket do as Jerry Klower suggested and shoot in amongst them as someone needs relief! If carrying when walking something like a Yaqui slide will be your best bet. ymmv

In SEA one of my Buddies met an Air America Dude who carried a 20 GA Double.
The stock was trimmed to a Pistol-grip, barrels shortened.
It was a Brass ring-swivel arrangement in the end of the Pistol-grip which snapped onto a GI Pistol Belt.

Pedersoli makes a black powder 20 ga Houdah. That's probably legal to own most places.
It would be interesting to have, but I'm not sure what I'd do with is.
Probably shoot it once and put it away.

I think those guns are very cool and I always envisioned a holster like James Caan wore to carry a sawed off shotgun in El Dorado.

Caan's holster is a modified cavalry boot that keeps a carbine from flopping around when mounted. There are reproductions made.

If they made it from the factory with the short barrel and stock, I think it could fall in the "AOW" category like the current "Shockwaves" do which requires a $5 tax stamp I believe.

I would first locate a good, well trained Indian elephant with a good mahout. Have the mahout secure a good howdah. He should know where you can have some good howdah holsters made to keep the weapons secure yet handy when a tiger tries to jump in your howdah.
Hope this helps.

"I think it could fall in the "AOW" category..". The barrels are rifled 1:48 which makes this a legal pistol.

Duh.
I was implying it could be made a 20 gauge or 12 gauge if they go that route.

If you’re going to be a bear you may as well be a grizzly!
12ga. Muzzle loader by American Gun Craft. I’m surprised
no one here bought one and written a review.
I don’t know what the quality is like. They caused a little bit
of a stir when released.

There are very few options for a gun like that, the DeSantis Midnight Express was a great recommendation. Here’s the holster Ithaca supplied with the Auto & Burglar double barreled pistol, it looks a lot like the DeSantis.

Hold on a sec there Rosewood - Deadwood?
You haven’t seen El Dorado?
James Caan is good, gets flak for his hat and gun.
Mixes a potion for Robert Mitchum’s alcohol problem.
Then has a rastling match and then gives hair styling advice to this lady.

Well, I am not sure. I will have to start the movie to see if it seems familiar. I am not all that old, these were movies my parents watched. I have seen a lot of the John Wayne movies, but not all. I think I have seen most of the Clint Eastwood westerns and all episodes of The Rifleman. I still have a lot of catching up to do on the westerns.
I don't always remember the titles of some movies, so don't know if I have seen them until I start watching again. I do have to say, many of these movies do inspire me to go out and purchase certain firearms.

Did I mention how much I love the dialogue in El Dorado?
Cole is the Duke, Missip is James Caan with that sawed off scattergun.
Cole : Did you get him?
Mississippi : Who?
Cole : The fella that ran outta the church!
Mississippi : Well, yes and no.
Cole : Yes and no? Did you or didn't you?
Mississippi : I hit the sign, and the sign hit him.
Cole : Well, that's great.
Mississippi : He was limping when he left!
Cole : He was limping when he got here!

Handejector said you might need a Mahout?
I'm your man. I'm a trained Mahout. Really. At your service.
Now, I really didn't get that much training, only about an hour's worth, but it was a real (kind of) Mahout training center, that cleverly disguised itself as a
'Hey tourist, come ride an elephant' joint up in the mountains outside Chaing Mai, Thailand.
My Mahouting experience totals about 2 hours, not including lunch and washing the elephant, which I think is the real gig at the Patara Elephant Farm, and I'm sure the staff gets quite a kick out of having tourists PAY to wash their dirty elephants.
Anyway, even though my training and experience as a Mahout is minimal, unless a more seasoned Mahouter springs up from the forum to challenge my Mahoutness, I will take the liberty of appointing myself Official Forum Mahout.
Once you secure your elephant (please opt for a Thai elephant, or one that understands Thai commands spoken with a Florida accent) and a nicely appointed howdah, please let me know. I'll put on my Mahouting britches lickety-split.

The scene where Caan pretends to be Asian is cut out of movie when on TV depending what channel it’s on. John Wayne was very impatient teaching guys to shoot. Caan fires one pistol shot, misses, and JW says, “‘Fraid it’s useless”. Then they buy the shotgun.

Do you mean concerning that little incident near Damascus?
Nope, but I remember it, if that's what you're referring to. I was a young Missile Tech (Poseidon) stationed in the missile magazine of the USS Simon Lake at King's Bay, GA. I did 2 years at KB before making my patrols on the SSBN (633G).
The loss of that Titan II provided fertile ground for a lot of our training!
After the Sub Service, I did 20 years in Titan Launch Operations at Cape Canaveral, hence the Titan Tom.

I don't see any mention of experiences with TIGERS + the heffalump, though. "Tourist on elephant" ≠ "Tourist on elephant-with-tiger-on-trunk." You might want to bring a change of britches.

If they made it from the factory with the short barrel and stock, I think it could fall in the "AOW" category like the current "Shockwaves" do which requires a $5 tax stamp I believe.
|
That's not quite correct. BECAUSE the Shockwave, the TAC-14, and now the Howda come from the factory as pistols they fall OUTSIDE of the AOW category and don't need a tax stamp at all. They are handguns and marked as "Firearms" on their boxes - they are not shotguns because ATF regulations call shotguns "shoulder fired" and these were never intended to have a shoulder stock.
Wait....we just had this discussion.....
Okay, I can't find it so here goes:
Quote:
The NFA defines shotgun, in part, as a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed shotgun shell to fire through a smooth bore either a number of projectiles (ball shot) or a single projectile for each pull of the trigger.
A shotgun is a firearm subject to the NFA if the shotgun has a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length. A weapon made from a shotgun is also a firearm subject to the NFA if the weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length.

I don't think such items have copyrights but if they do then it's (c) ATF 2020.

Pilgram, I worked missile security at that site in Green Valley. We pulled up to change crews the day after Halloween. Someone stole the phone at the gate to call down to the crew to let us in. We had no radios so we had to go to Circle K to call the base. The crew leader ( the 2 security guys sat in the back) tried to call collect. No dice so he came out to see if anybody had enough change to make the call. That site was the last to come down as it was so close to a populated area and the fuel and oxidizer is not people friendly!!!!

Just finished watching El Dorado. In full HD remastered Technicolor I guess. Looked as good as a movie recorded today. I expected poor quality. Never cared much for James Caan in later movies, probably wouldn't have recognized him had I not know he was on there, but he did a great job. Really enjoyed his character. And those 2 ladies on there are gorgeous, Michele Carey and Charlene Holt. Both old enough to be my grandmother, but wow! Really enjoy the comedy in it also. Christopher George as Mcleod looks like he could be Willem Defoes dad.

OK, past time to shut this down. The OP asked for suggestions for a holster for an unusual gun and we’ve ended up watching old westerns. It would have been more helpful to say “I don’t know of any holsters for such a gun.”
