HOLSTER MINUTIAE
I really do hope this bit of minutiae does not bore you to tears.
I know there are at least a couple of others on here that enjoy
the trivia as much as I.
I have this old Pioneer Company holster, and have often wondered
if it was made before Pioneer bought Eubanks, during the time
they operated as Eubanks Pioneer, or after Eubanks went back
into business as Idaho Leather.
I just realized what I think I know. Brauer Brothers patented
the "Snap Loop" holster in 1928. Their literature publicised the
advantage as being able to put on or take off the holster without
undoing your belt.
At that time (1928) patents had a life of 17 years. So, I reasoned
that I shouldn't find a holster with the snap loop made prior to
1945, unless made by Brauer Brothers.
So the old Pioneer was made after 1945 because it has
the snap loop. Eubanks sold to Pioneer in 1949.
Yes, I do have entirely too much time on my hands.

Not boring at all in fact it peaked my curiosity and I had to dig through my holsters to see which ones had a snap loop and only found one.
This Lawrence is the only one I have.

I always wondered why Brauers were like that... thought it was just “their style”. Never thought about unsnapping to put it on!

Laced and basket weave stamped. Must have been

Last time this came up, as I recall, both myself and turnerriver
agreed we never used the snap & unsnap. Just about as quick
to undo the belt and slip the holster on the conventional way.

To quote Arty Johnson "Verrrrrrry interesting". I too, had looked at the snap loops and never associated it with putting the holster on and off. It never fails that everyday on this forum I learn something, Thanks!!

I don't think I've ever used the snap to put a holster on my belt either but it does make easier to clean the back side of them.

Not only can you take it off without unbuckling your belt, you can also wash your hands and play with the baby.
Phil, that’s not minutiae, that’s important information.
