Default Getting Ink off Leather

Every so often I will get a holster or belt that someone has decided to put their initials or name on; any good tricks for getting ballpoint ink off??
Thanks

Fine sandpaper would get the job done, but it will also remove all the leather fibers that have absorbed the ink.

I’d try saddle soap first. Alcohol could dull the finish if it soaks through but saddle soap conditions the leather. I’ve had very good luck cleaning mold off leather with it. If I did resort to alcohol I’d get 91% isopropyl at the drug store or denatured alcohol at Home Depot or the hardware. Even better Absolute Or Everclear alcohol is 95% ethanol / 5% water and can be mixed as a cocktail with orange juice when you’re finished :-) It’s a great solvent, mixer and hand sanitizer. Just don’t drink denatured or isopropyl though.
