Default S. D. Myres #614 THREEPERSONS

Of all the holsters I know of, if I had to choose my very favorite,
there is a pretty good chance it would be the T3P Model 614 by
S. D. Myres.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s you could pick up almost any gun
magazine and find an ad for the 614. My photo on the left shows
one of those ads from February 1964 in GUNS magazine.

Until recently I only had one 614, shown 2nd from left, with my
S&W Model 29. Myres must have sold boatloads of the famous
Threepersons holster, but try to find one now. It's not easy.

One did come up recently on ebay. Seller wasn't sure what it
would fit. I probably paid a little too much for it, but I just had
to have it. Before clean up photo is 3rd from left.

I use a bit of warm water, a sponge, and a couple of drops of
Dawn dishwasher soap. It's what they use to clean up the birds
after an oil spill. It gets the grime and oil off, and if it's gentle
enough for birds it must be gentle enough for my cow hides.

Seller called it brown, but it is obviously Cordovan. Technically
Cordovan is a type of leather, but it is fairly common now days
to refer to it as a color.

I went to my favorite shoe repair shop looking for some Brillo
leather spray in Cordovan. They didn't have any, but they did
introduce me to a product called Urad Cream. They said it would
clean, condition, protect, and shine, all in one easy treatment.
So, I tried it. The after photo is 4th from left.

The best fit is my Model 19 Combat Magnum, shown 5th from
left, on my Texas Gunslinger Cordovan gun belt. The knife is
a Bear. And of course my Stetson Open Road wanted to be in
the picture.

There must be some Myres #614 T3Ps out there. This is your
chance to show them off.

Very nice, S.D.Myres made great holsters. I've got a couple somewhere but sadly not the 614. Great picture with the Stetson and Combat Magnum!

Phil, that’s the very ad that led me to order this rig when I was a teenager. I correctly surmised that I’d always own at least one 4” K frame S&W and would probably want to wear it in the woods. As with you, it’s been my favorite for many years.

BTW the Cordovan 614 is not really as black as it looks in the photo. It
is actually kind of a nice Cordovan (or Oxblood if you prefer).

I'm just the opposite John. I was a skinny teenager. 160# at 6'2" when
I enlisted at age 17. A lot more now, I like the term "husky", at 85.

John,
When I read this, I actually chuckled out loud! I, too, was husky, fat, or "big boned" and still am today! Here is my Myres 614.

Here’s an example with rawhide edge lacing, made for a .44 Magnum.

John, that one is absolutely, positively the kittens whiskers.
Here is an old #624 of mine that doesn't get shown too often.
It has my 4" Model 67 Combat Masterpiece on board.
The silver dollar belt buckle has my birth year, 1935.

I thought some of you might like to see what the Myres had for competition
back then. Here, on the left, is my Myres 614. Center is Heiser's 457.
At right is Lawrence's 34B.

I was looking at some of my notes, and in them I wrote, the Myres holster that looks like the Model 614, and has a safety strap, is actually a Model 640. Please correct me if I have this wrong. Here is one of mine with the safety strap:

And one of my favorite holsters, I assume it is a Model 614 or 640, but has the fancy lacework and a dyed background:

One with both a safety strap and a dog ear is a 624 as shown in post
#18 above. I don't know about your 640, but maybe turnerriver will
return and he will know.

Here's the S.D. Myres that sparked my interest. I found it in an antique store mixed in with the toy cap gun holsters. With a whopping $12.50 price tag....

Larry is right, the model 640 is a Threepersons carved holster with a safety strap. LEO918’s Holster is a model 814, first cataloged in 1940 and carried in the line up into the 1970’s despite the addition of the model 624 with the dog-ear type hammer protector.

turnerriver

Kudos to all of you guys on the gun leather. Makes me want to go dig through the holster boxes at all the pawn shops in the area.

Have a blessed day,
