L.A. Confidential gun and Berns-Martin holster
This gun and holster belonged to one of the corrupt Los Angeles detetectives killed by Dets. Bud White and Ed Exley in the famous 1953 shootout at the Victory motel. Blood stains on the holster DNA tested proving it matched current relatives of a detective who's name I won't mention to protect the family. That's my story and I'n stickin' to it.

Hold on a second -- the ammo box says 148-gr wadcutters, and those bullets are RNL. I suspect evidence tampering.
Cheers,

Sadly, the director suffered dementia in later years and died a couple years ago. IIRC he said they purposely avoided having everyone wear hats like customary back then. They felt it would appeal to modern viewers without them and remind people it’s a period piece, which worked. Unfortunately Titanic sunk it for best picture. It’s my fave, too.

The upswept hammer spur on that guy’s gun is probably perfect for 1953. what a cool picture of the era.

Hey, Whisper. Good eye. I can’t even lie and say the guy was a hand loader and stored his reloads in that box because you guys would know those boxes are too short for anything but wad cutters. but the graphics sure look good for the era, don’t they?

A great movie. I really like the Ithaca Model 37 shotguns which were used to good effect too.

Here’s the shorter of two videos about the making of the movie including interviews with James Elroy. The “Lana Turner” scene is the only one not in the book according to the director and co-writer. But in the other video they said Elroy loved it. This shows how necessary it is for screenwriters drastically edit down books for film.
PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THIS IF YOU HAVEN”T SEEN THE MOVIE.

For credit where credit is due, in the "She is Lana Turner" scene, the
actress that played Lana Turner was Brenda Bakke.

One great movie, I read the book too; Along with " Rush" with Greg Alman and Jennifer Lea, read that one too. Interweb is great to find things fast. Where can I find some books/films that glorify street scum like the daily news worships?

That’s my 1952 Cobra. I have the original “Coltwood” plastic grips for it, too. And it always has a Tyler T-grip in it but not for these pictures for the book “Holstery” where it and the rare Berns-Martin IWB holster appear in.

L.A. Confidential--if you like period cop shows(and the guns that go with them), this is one of the best.(IMO)I'm thinking I'll watch it again today.

I never heard of it. Says 80 photos and all non fiction. How’s it look to you or did it arrive yet? Thanks for turning us on to it. To paraphrase the director of the movie, the cops then were hard boiled WW2 vets who drank bourbon and ate red meat.
EDIT: I just noticed that Four-Speed posted the book, too but I missed it.

Dang! One of my few favorite movies. I never knew it was from a book.
Thanks to this thread I am now about half way through the book. Then I will watch the movie again!
Thank You!

What I have read the dialogue is period correct and not for those easily offended by terms used. Photos are explicit.

LA Confidential is the third book in Ellroy's "LA Quartet". They are very violent and seedy books but seem to be a fairly accurate depiction of the early days of LA when the studios simply owned the city and honest police struggled with the corrupt system as much as they did the bad guys.
IMO they are classics in the noir genre and easily the best work Ellroy has done.

I watched L.A. Confidential again on Blu-Ray DVD about a month ago. What a marvelous bit of movie making it was. Highly recommended.
