Default Anyone else use an AKJ Concealco?

Does anyone else use or have experience with an AKJ Concealco IWB holster? Mine is for my Ruger Speed Six and was made by the original maker of the holster many years ago. I find it both comfortable and concealable. I believe the original maker developed ALS or another disease and had to stop making holsters. Someone later took it over but they can only be found on Facebook and appear to have no site of their own.

In the case of mine; he didn't list speed six but I spoke on the phone and he thought he could use a Security Six dummy. Unfortunately he formed it shallow because of the adjustable rear sight and the first one just wasn't right; too much revolver sticking out and not secure feeling. I called the maker and explained I wanted deeper seating ( like he showed in photos for a J-Frame) with the leather formed around the cylinder for retention. After asking for some dimension for the top strap he actually took his Security Six dummy and ground the rear sight down like a fixed sight gun (he said he had no demand for one for a Security six anyway) The result was near perfect as you can see by the photos.

I can't say how the current maker is but I really like my original.

The lower photo is an old stock photo showing how the front is reinforced for the front retaining strap screw attachment location

I have some older AKJ Concealco leather, including flashlight holders. I though that they went out of business long ago.

They have a presence on Facebook but there appears to be nothing dated later than 2017. I expect they are gone again; no direct experience but I had heard the later ones from a different maker may have not been as good.

Hey guys, I know this is an older thread, but I thought I'd throw out an update. My name is Ted Leaman and I am the owner of Legion Leather, a holster smith in Utah.

Sadly, Andrew from AKJ passed on June 11, 2020 and the person that was supposed to pick up the line fell through the cracks. Since then, all of this holstering equipment has been gathering dust in a storage shed.

Recently I was approached by his family with the opportunity to pick up his equipment and, after discussing with the family, decided to not only pick up the equipment, but carry on the AKJ legacy. This means I will now be reproducing the AKJ Concealco product line starting in July 2022. I am still acquiring all the pattern details and familiarizing myself with his processes.

If you're a fan of the AKJ Concealco line, hit me up and we can work through getting some new AKJ legacy holsters into your hands!

that is great news. My original is my favorite holster; comfortable, concealable and nicely made. When I got mine he didn't have a Speed Six dummy so he had me take a couple of measurements and said he ground the rear sight down on a Security Six dummy and used it. From what he told me he had little or no call for a Sec Six concealco

I have 4 of the originals from Andrew. I have IWB's made by several big name holster makers but none are as comfortable or any better made (if even that good) than the AKJ's. I don't know how he dyed and sealed his holsters but they are as smooth as a baby's butt, very "rich" in color and wrap to your hip better than any of the others. the sole exception is an IWB for my 396 made by Little Bear. He affixed the leading strap in a similar position as AKJ and it works very well. Dave became quite ill as well if I remember correctly and had to stop making holsters.
I spoke with Andrew from time to time about my holster orders and one night he relayed to me he was having a really tough day with his illness. We talked for an hour or more about everything but holsters. He seemed to need to talk and I was happy to listen...he was a good man...

If the new maker can produce a comparable product you won't be disappointed. One of us will have to order one and see.
