Redhead Holster
Picked up a lot of nice older pieces recently including this Redhead belt holster. Cleaned up nicely. What can you tell me about the brand? Is there a fit chart out there? I have not been able to find one.The marking on the back starts with " 20 H...."
Thanks for any knowledge available

Red Head brands have been around for a long time. Founded in Chicago
in 1867. They have made a variety of products. The Red Head duck is
their logo. The brand has gone through several ownerships over the years.
Last, and current owner I think, is Bass Pro Shops. The holsters are not
particularly rare. There are tons of them available on auction sites.
I tried to find a fit or size chart for you but my search turned
up nothing. I did find another 20 H, but all the seller said is
that it is for a pistol.
turnerriver undoubtedly has an old catalog that may have some
size or fit information. Perhaps he will jump in here and help.

I may be wrong, but I doubt Red Head had its own leather holster manufacturing plant. My guess would be it was contracted out to a known maker. By the look of its general style, maybe Hunter Holsters?

Their history says they were manufacturers of many different
products, including holsters.

I’m away from my library so I can’t check the model number, I’ll look it up when I get back home. There should be another digit in the model number.
Red Head was the manufacturer, they made holsters for a number of other concerns including VL&A. They used a distinctive yellow thread and a chain stitch that is visible on the rear seam.

Here’s a page from my 1939 catalog that lists the size codes for a Detachable Belt Holster. The model shown predates your example but I’m confident that your is a later example of the detachable belt holster and I believe the size codes still apply. As you can see, 206HDB fits a pair of Harrington & Richardson revolvers. I hope this helps, that’s the only catalog I have for Red Head.
Regards,
turnerriver
