Default SHOULD HOLSTER AND BELT MATCH?

It probably doesn't make a lot of difference if the holster is IWB
(Inside Waist Band), or even if OWB and concealed, because
no one is supposed to see it anyway.

I always try to match my holster and belt. Don't always get it
exactly correct, but I try hard and sometimes I am successful.

Here are some examples, Left to Right:

Myers 614 holster on a carved Carson belt with my model 29.

Lawrence 34B on a Dave Keith belt with my model 19.

Brill holster on a James belt with my model 10 4" barrel.

Ken Null RSS holster on a Haugen belt with my model 10 2"

Shoemaker holster on Nichol's Sidewinder belt with my model 67.

I have brown holsters and black holsters. I also have brown and black gun belts. I do match them. I don't suppose there's any real reason or need to. I just think it looks better.

Yes, they should.
My snubby holster.

And belt.

Yeah they're both black with white stitching and basket weave stamped but honestly, if you look closely, you'll notice that the basket weave doesn't match. Kinda bugs me sometimes.

Anyway, matching cross draw and ranger belt.

Got the basket weave matched on this one.

I'm of the opinion that it should all match, including footwear.

I’ve always wanted a nice leather shoulder holster. I ended up making one. It’s more or less something I play with around the house with. I just started making stuff out of leather so I’m pretty much seeing what I’m capable of.

YES - I believe they should match. First off a holster matching the belt is a little less conspicuous. Secondly, I wouldn't want to get a ticket from the fashion police!

I use to only buy tan, natural or brown holsters when I first started out totin'. It soon became obvious to me that black holsters and belts are less conspicuous when you bend down, reach for something high, or when the wind blows your over shirt. Now I will only buy black holsters and belts AND have had all my tan, brown and natural holster (at least the ones I really use) dyed black. When all your carry gear is black - mixing and matching equipment is a snap!

Last but not least, anyone who carries on a daily basis knows that holsters and belts tend to get scratched, bumped, nicked and worn. A little Lincoln or Kiwi shoe polish brings a black holster back to like new in a few minutes!

Default The way I do it.

The way it is up here we can't CC, but when I go to the range I like to wear tan shoes with pink shoelaces, with a polka dot vest with a white Panama hat with a purple hat band, so I think a nice tan fits quite well with chrome accoutrements and a blue steel saw.

Many of my holsters are some shade of brown or mahogany. My boots and belts are all black. The latest holster I had built is black. Perhaps the way of things to come?

Pictures will be posted when it arrives.

Always try to match my holster to my belt! But here’s the question of the day?
Should my Black handgun match my Brown holster?
My black Glock 27 in my brown Don Hume holster, along with a newly purchased Hen and Rooster knife.
The knife has been a long time coming and I’m really pleased with it. Never pocket carried a knife that big before but I really like it!

All my leather belts and holsters are El Paso Saddlery in russet. Just what I like.

Color matching is nice. Tooling matched is nice.

For me the real essential matching is the belt size to the holster's belt loops or slots. There is no way to make a holster ride in a consistent position if these points do not match.

My belts are all manufactured by the same provider as my holsters: Milt Sparks or Matt DelFatti.

The issue isn’t color or tooling: it’s holster-belt fit.

If your holster doesn’t fit the belt properly, you don’t have the benefits of good carry gear.

Yes they should match except when I am out in the desert.
In that case my clothes don't match either and I wear a hat that my wife thinks is stupid.

SHOULD HOLSTER AND BELT MATCH?

Yes !!!
I once caught my SIL wearin' a mis-matched belt and holster.
I told him, "Don't be a Neanderthal !"

Matching pant belts as well as matching cartridge pouch and buckle sets,

Business professional? Yes, please match. It takes much more time getting ready anyway so make sure it matches... I mean the tie alone...

Visiting friends? Out running errands? I don't care too much, it happens

I never thought of matching belt to holster, just used what was to hand, so I went and looked. Yep, brown holster and black belt, black holster with brown belt. Darn! So, I swapped ‘em. Well, that was an easy fix. Now’s all right with the world. Thanks!

The problem with brown leather (as Keith44 in post #15 shows) is that frequently “brown” leather when ordered can be any one of a large number of shades. Black is alway black, so you know what you are going to get will match.

Even if it's all colored with the same bottle of leather dye.

So if you are carrying concealed, which some of you likely are, no one is supposed to see it, so who the heck cares? Not me!

I see what I'm wearing, and I care. But I don't care what you
wear. The guy that wears mis-matched socks probably has
another pair just like them at home.

As a collector I want them to match and be made by the same maker and ideally at the same time.

As a concealed carrier I want only the best, matching the grips is a plus. Not to brag ( says the man getting ready to brag ) this holster was made for me personally, has both my & the maker’s name on it & is the best money can buy.

Regards,
Turnerriver

Default OMG!!! Look at all the no-no's pictured herein!!

I mean hey.........this is 2020, year of weird things and weirder events, not to mention the clowns out-and-about.

Just glance at all those "exposed triggers". Holy Smokes...disaster waiting to happen. How do I know? Cause the Internet tells me so.

Seriously....some mighty fine leather gear shown on this thread.

ALL my guns get carried in holsters just like these, just not such esteemed makers. Still get stupid looks at the range by fantastic plastic carriers in retention level 3 holsters, that look like contortionists with a gut ache, when attempting to get their own gun into any semblance of firing position.

Exactly why the RSO's cringe when these types want to "get holster qualified". Getting holster qualified is a very big deal at the range I use, and it appears none of these modern types even practice before they ask, so one usually sees way too much unsafe handling, that the RSO's will only do one-on-one, with an appointment anymore.

Sorry for the thread drift....again some really beautiful and practical gun leather shown here, and just between us...my belts & holsters match, mostly because the fits were made for each other by the same OEM (eg. Galco dress or duty for Galco holsters, Bianchi & Safariland). The belt size to holster loop and belt stiffness (thickness) have always been important to me so I feel comfortable all the way around, whether concealed carry, open carry or BBQ.

I wonder if anyone has ever read about, or heard about, a verified incident
where anyone shot themself, with a double action revolver, because of wearing
one of those scary open trigger guard holsters like I showed up in the #1 post?
I think it was the semi-automatics that caused the holster
makers to start covering the trigger guard.

I like that pocket holster John, but I wonder if he (or she) can
match these grips.

James Bond says that the collar should match the cuffs.

As accommodating as Bob Mika is it wouldn’t surprise me if he could.

You have to know the rules in order to break them! Ideally, all your leathers should match including the wallet.

I prefer tan/brown/russett leather both for my belts and holsters. I have one black holster ... nice 5BHL. One day ... some day ... will buy a nice holster for my little S&W M-18. It'll most likely be ... russet with a matching belt ... carved, etc. Sincerely. bruce.

Doesn't really matter.

That said, with one exception I do try to match, for a couple of reasons.

First, practically speaking, I get (nearly) all my carry gear in black, partly because it's easy to match and also because it's less likely to stand out if, by some chance, it gets momentarily exposed. I wear black undershirts, so that helps with the camouflage.

Second, I have some pretty strong OCD tendencies (which anyone who pays attention to my posts can confirm) and want everything to match.

This is my EDC gear 99.9% of the time...

The one exception is the belt speed strip pouch I got from Simply Rugged several years ago when oxblood was the only color they offered. They now offer them in black, so I will be getting one in that color when I can.

I would like to get some gear in cordovan, as I think it's a cool color, but as was mentioned above, colors other than black can be difficult to match and I like belts, mag pouches, and holsters from different makers.

My belt (which is also my everyday belt) started out as Mahogany and is now beginning to fade with age one of my holsters is Mahogany and one is brown and I have a couple that are ballistic nylon and black. They are all OWB and it really couldn't matter to me if they all matched or not they do the job which is all that counts.

To the OP - you've far exceeded my efforts, and I applaud your style.
An issue of mine, two actually....
Black leather - I was made/required to wear it for 3 decades.
It will BE no more. Nope to black leather.

And - I live in the SE US on the coast. Near the salt. And I sweat a lot.
Most leather belts end up looking pretty bad.
So, my 'gun belts' and everyday belts are reinforced nylon. They do not match quality leather, but they work.
One day I plan to put some matching belts and holsters together.
Well done!
